Michelle Trachtenberg didn’t hold anything back. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star was open about her health during her lifetime and her healthy habits that strayed away from Hollywood glamour.
Trachtenberg was found dead on February 26, 2025, in New York City. She was 39. Her death is not deemed suspicious, per officials. ‘Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased,” officials reported to Daily Mail.
Friends of the Gossip Girl actress revealed that she was struggling with her health after she had a liver transplant. So, what exactly happened to her health?
Michelle Trachtenberg was vocal about how didn’t use drugs when she was alive. Years before her death she said, via the Daily Mail, “My mom was protective, but she just said, ‘It’s your choice—you ruin your career or don’t.’ If you realize how lucky you are to be sitting in the position you are, then you just don’t drink, don’t do the cocaine.”
She wasn’t exposed to the world of drugs and noticed her own phrasings. “‘The cocaine!’ I call it ‘the weed.’ I’m drug dumb. I don’t know s—t about drugs. I just don’t do that because I would never do anything to – God forbid – ruin my career. I value my career.”
The actress also said that it’s affected her everyday life. “I’ve been in situations where I’ve been petrified of putting my purse down because I was traveling the next day and I knew that there was stuff on the counter. I’m just overly paranoid.”
Trachtenberg’s mother found her unconscious in her room and contacted emergency officials. ABC News reported that Michelle Trachtenberg had a liver transplant in the months leading up to her death. TMZ also reported that officials said that her body could have rejected the liver which led to complications. Her family opted to not do an autopsy.
Sources told People that Trachtenberg was not in high spirits in the months after the procedure. Friends who were close to her said that she “really down emotionally” and had “health issues.”
“She told friends she was struggling,” the source told the site. “She was really, really sick and open with those in her circle about how much she was struggling.”
