The Oscars are Hollywood’s biggest night. One part of the ceremony that everyone pays attention to is the In Memoriam section, but one big star’s absence caught the eyes of cinephiles and pop culture aficionados alike.

Morgan Freeman introduced the section by doing a poignant tribute to Oscar winner Gene Hackman who died on February 27, 2025, at the age of 95. “This week our community lost a giant, and I lost a dear friend, Gene Hackman,” he said. “He received two Oscars and more importantly he won the hearts of film lovers all over the world.” The Oscars montage, which had the Los Angeles Chorale sing Mozart’s “Lacrimosa” from the composer’s requiem mass, featured film’s great legends who were lost this year like David Lynch, James Earle Jones, Jeff Baena, and Maggie Smith, as well as people behind the scenes who have passed.

However, fans called out the Oscars for not featuring one star who passed away this week.

Why wasn’t Michelle Trachtenberg included in the In Memoriam at the Oscars?

As of writing this, there’s no explanation why Michelle Trachtenberg wasn’t included during the In Memoriam section at the Oscars. The actress died on February 26, 2025, at her home in New York City, five days before the awards ceremony.

Fans called out the awards ceremony for not including her in the section. “michelle trachtenberg not being mentioned in the in memoriam section of the oscars is upsetting , you are and will remain so so loved and admired michelle 🩷,” one fan wrote on X. Another fan wrote, “It’s shameful that the #Oscars didn’t include Michelle Trachtenberg in their memorial montage of all the actors/actresses who have passed within the year!!!! 😡”

Other fans had the same sentiment “oh f—k yall for not including michelle trachtenberg. so disrespectful” one fan posted. Another posted, “the Oscars not honoring Michelle Trachtenberg in the memoriam is absolutely disgusting.”

Trachtenberg’s death is not deemed suspicious, per officials. ‘Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased,” officials reported to Daily Mail. She reportedly received a liver transplant months before her death which her body might have rejected.

Other stars who were omitted from the montage included Tony Todd, Chance Perdomo, Alain Delon, “Annie Hall” star Tony Roberts, Linda Lavin, Martin Mull, and Romeo and Juliet star Olivia Hussey.
