JENNIE Fans Are Convinced ‘Twin’ Is About an Ex-Friend After She Cried on Stage While Performing the Song
Friendship breakups are the hardest. After JENNIE released her album Ruby, many Blinks theorized that a particular song was written about a distant friend Chahee.
The song “Twin” is about a breakup, and it’s one of Jennie’s most “personal” songs. She sings about a relationship that’s lasted for ten years, but didn’t specify whether it was romantic or platonic. She recalls in the verse, “I didn’t leave ya, I still see ya / When I’m bumping Ashanti, yeah, on the beach, yeah / I didn’t hold ya, but I still know ya / We will make up, make things right when we get older, friend.”
In an interview with Apple Music, Zane Lowe noted how deep the song was and Jennie was impressed that he saw “right through” her. “I think being truthful on that song gave me a conclusion, a clear thought on how I felt on that relationship,” she explained. Some fans are speculating that the song is about her relationship with Chahee, since some fans noticed that the two haven’t hung out publicly in a while.

During one of her Ruby Experience shows in Los Angeles, Jennie was seen visibly crying while singing and fans were definitely wondering what happened in their friendship.
What Happened with Jennie & Chahee?
Jennie and Chahee don’t seem to be as close as they were in the past. The Melody Day member allegedly liked a comment saying that Jennie wrote “Twin” for her. “chahee jennie made this song for you, twin” the comment said.
The two met when they were in high school and the idols would post photos together on the beach or hanging out casually. They also allegedly owned the brand Nieeh together. Neither Jennie or Chahee have posted about each other since 2022, but Chahee did congratulate Jennie on her album upon Ruby‘s release.
In light of the emotional song, fans took to social media to speculate. “[O]h twin is definitely for Chahee…. like nothing hurts more than a friendship breakup,” one fan commented on X. Another wrote, “Jennie writing twin for a friendship breakup and not for a man.”
