John Mulaney is a happily married man. The comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer always gushes about his children and his wife Olivia Munn, but how did his weddings go down?

Mulaney filed for divorce from his first wife Anna Marie Tendler in July 2021. Tendler made a statement at the time: “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.” News later broke that John Mulaney was in a relationship with actress Olivia Munn. Munn later gave birth to their son Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney on November 24, 2021. On January 10, 2021, Munn took to Instagram to share a photo of Mulaney holding and kissing their newborn after the holidays.

Safe to say, Mulaney’s weddings really contrasted with each other. Take a look at the similarities and differences below.

John Mulaney’s wedding with Olivia Munn

John Mulaney and Olivia Munn’s wedding was held in July 2024. A source told People that the ceremony was held in a friend’s house in New York State and that the only people who were in attendance were a witness and their son Malcolm Hiệp.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the comedian revealed that Sam Waterston, Munn’s costar from “The Newsroom,” officiated their ceremony as Waterson “once said to Olivia if you ever get married, I’ll perform the ceremony.”

Mulaney also revealed that Malcolm pooped during the ceremony, “Over the summer, he was a 2-year-old. He was at our wedding in a little tuxedo and shorts. He actually went to the bathroom in his diaper during [the ceremony] and announced it mid-vows. A very sweaty little 2-year-old in a tuxedo just went, ‘I’m pooping!’”

Mulaney first shared the news of being married on an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “I got married. Thanks a lot. It’s the best,” the comedian confessed. “It’s the greatest single time in my life.”

“I’ve been in a lot of interesting situations, but marrying into a large Vietnamese family is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done,” he continued. “They’re the best, man. One of them will come with you anywhere, and they call me John Mulaney — full name. Full name all the time: ‘Olivia’s here with John Mulaney.’”

In September, the couple welcomed a daughter Méi June via surrogate. Munn has been open about her cancer diagnosis and recovery as she underwent multiple surgeries like a mastectomy, reconstruction, and a hysterectomy.

John Mulaney’s wedding with Anna Marie Tendler

HOLLYWOOD, CA - FEBRUARY 24: (L-R) Annamarie Tendler and John Mulaney attends the 91st Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood and Highland on February 24, 2019 in Hollywood, California.

John Mulaney’s wedding with Anna Marie Tendler took place on July 5, 2014, in Boiceville, New York, at the Onteora Mountain House. Mulaney posted a photo of his wedding on Instagram and wrote, “July 5, 2014. On a beautiful and perfect day, I married a beautiful and perfect woman. I wish I could live it over and over again.”

Guests who attended included, Seth Meyers, Nick Kroll, and SNL alums Nasim Pedrad and Amy Poehler. Their dog Petunia was also in attendance and Mulaney’s close friend Dan Levy was the officiant, which John has joked about in his stand-up sets.  My wife is Jewish, I grew up Catholic, so we got married by a friend,” he said at his special Kid Gorgeous. Being married by a friend is a beautiful ceremony that alienates both families’ religions, while confusing the elderly people at the wedding.”

As to why they got married in upstate New York, Anna told Green Wedding Shoes, “First and foremost, John and I wanted to get married in nature. Though we’d lived in New York City for 10 years the wedding ceremony just seemed like something that should take place within the peaceful surroundings of trees and mountains instead of concrete and skyscrapers. When John and I got out of the car and saw the sprawling vistas and towering trees we knew immediately we’d found our wedding site. Plus, in the event of rain the ceremony would take place in the beautiful, wood pavilion with huge windows, so even indoors the incredible view would not be lost. We knew rain or shine it would be the perfect setting for the 1920’s inspired, woodland-deco bash we’d envisioned.”
