Piper Rockelle
Netflix

With the release of Netflix‘s newest documentary Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing, people might be wondering how child YouTube stars make and how parents can get away with using their kids for money. Tiffany Smith used her child Piper Rockelle and her friends to monetize YouTube videos, but the world seemed to crumble after abuse allegations came out.

Piper Rockelle skyrocketed in fame by posting YouTube videos about her life. Shortly later, she recruited teenagers Sophie Fergi, Gavin Magnus, Sawyer Sharbino, Hayden Haas, Corinne Joy, Jentzen Ramirez, Claire Rock Smith and Symonne Harrison, to appear in her videos. Together, they were named the Squad and posted on a very consistent schedule. However, what was happening behind the scenes was more sinister than what the public thought.

In 2020, eleven teenagers sued Rockwell and her mother filed a lawsuit complaining of exploitation and being “frequently subjected to an emotionally, physically and sometimes sexually abusive environment perpetrated by Piper’s mom.” They claimed that Tiffany Smith inflicted ongoing abuse such as shouting explicit comments, repeatedly touching the plaintiffs inappropriately and encouraging them to be “sexy” and “sexually aggressive” in videos. Each teenager sued the mother-daughter duo for $2 million, making the lawsuit add up to $22 million.

Since the lawsuit and controversies became public, Piper’s YouTube channel dwindled in popularity and continued. But does she still earn money today?

What is Piper Rockwell’s net worth?

Piper Rockwell’s net worth is estimated to be around $4 million according to Celebrity Net Worth. She still continues to earn from her online appearances, with YouTubes.me reporting that she earned an estimated $10k in March 2025.

Piper’s net worth came from a majority of brand deals with Amazon and Disney. At her peak, Piper reportedly earned up to $690,000 a month. During the lawsuit, YouTube demonetized Piper’s channel — causing her business to lose $300,000 to $500,000 in monthly income, according to court records.

The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2024, with the 11 teens receiving $1.85 million. One of the family’s purpose in the lawsuit was to ensure that this scenarios never happen again, with one parent saying they “didn’t pursue this lawsuit to change the industry, but to bring awareness that predators can be found in any field.”

“This lawsuit was never about money,” plaintiff Sophia F.’s mother, Heather Trimmel, said. “It was to make sure she couldn’t do what she did to me to another kid.”
