BeyHive members were met with a surprised at Beyoncé’s first Cowboy Carter Tour stop in Los Angeles, California, on April 28, 2025, when not one but two of her kids with Jay Z performed with her on stage: daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi. But as clips of Blue Ivy and Rumi’s show-stopping performance takes over social media, fans can’t help but wonder where Beyoncé and Jay Z’s third child and only son, Sir, was, and whether he too could appear on the Cowboy Carter Tour. (Spoiler alert: Don’t hold your breath.)
Rumi and Blue Ivy made a rare appearance during Beyoncé’s performance of “Protector” during the opening night of her Cowboy Carter Tour. Videos shared on social media showed Rumi appearing on stage in a gold sparkly feather with matching cowboy boots as she hugged her mom and stood by her side during the performance. Blue Ivy, for her part, could be seen dancing behind them in a sparkly gray ensemble. “Give it up for Rumi, y’all,” Beyoncé said as she introduced Rumi. But what about Rumi’s twin brother, Sir?
Sir likely wasn’t at the first stop of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour because he’s much more reserved than his sisters. In an interview with Us Weekly in 2019, Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, explained that the main difference between the three Carter kids is that Rumi and Blue Ivy are more like their mom, Beyoncé, while Sir is more like their father, Jay Z. “The girl [Rumi] is really just going to rule the world, and the boy [Sir] is kind of laid back and chills like the dad,” she said. She continued, “[Blue Ivy] is the Queen B. The second Queen B.”
Tina also reiterated the differences between Sir and Rumi in an interview with E! News in 2024. “Sir is very quiet,” Tina said, adding that her grandson “does all of the numbers stuff, so he’s not into fashion as much.” She also described Sir as “very, very smart.”

As for Rumi, Tina told E! News that her granddaughter is “an amazing artist, painter and creator.” She continued, “How could they be anything else growing up in that environment? All we talk about is creativity and fashion.”
Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles, also echoed the same differences between Beyoncé’s three children in an interview with Us Weekly in 2020. “Blue Ivy is just so incredible and reminds me of Beyoncé so much,” he said. “Sir, he just wants his world to himself. [His twin sister], Rumi, reminds me of [my daughter] Solange [Knowles].”
He also noted that Blue Ivy has “already proven” she wants to follow in her parents’ musical footsteps. “I think we all see that in her,” he said. “Just like I saw it in Solange and Beyoncé when they were growing up. They’re just about the passion because when we live in our passions, we don’t have to work a day in our lives. … I just want them to find their passions and put in the work ethic and they’ll be successful.”
As for whether he could see Beyoncé and Jay Z having more children, Matthew said that he’s “good either way.” He added, “That’s certainly their decision.”
