How Meghan Markle Is Disobeying Royals for Her ‘Personal Gain’ After Reports William Will ‘Deal With’ Her & Harry Once He’s King
Meghan Markle is reportedly making a daring choice with her royal titles. After reports that Prince William will be stripping his brother Harry and his wife of their titles, sources have revealed that the As Ever founder is making deliberate choices.
“Meghan hates the royal family and UK, yet flouts [the HRH] for her personal gain. It’s appalling. Everything about her is a contradiction,” one royal insider told Page Six. Another source confirmed to the gossip site that they have also used their HRH titles when traveling and in their stationery. It was recently revealed that Meghan used the Her Royal Highness title when sending Jamie Kern Lima, the CEO of IT Cosmetics, a homemade gift basket with a note that said, “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” The Page Six insider called Markle’s letterhead “disgraceful” and “shocking,” adding she has no right to [use the HRH style].
However, a source close to the Sussexes says that it’s not true, adding that Markle “has embraced the [royal] platform and hierarchy, but it just doesn’t translate in the US. It’s weird to refer to your team as ‘private office’ and ask them to call you Sir and Ma’am.” The insider continued, “Heaven forbid she just asks people to call her ‘Meghan.’”
Sources told the BBC the couple never used the HRH title in a commercial or public setting, and that this use of the title was strictly private, and the gift was given more than a year ago. Those sources also confirmed the title has not been used to promote Meghan Markle’s As Ever products or her Netflix series.
Buckingham Palace announced in 2020 that the couple would not be using the HRH titles. However, with recent uses, it’s raised some eyebrows for royal insiders. “She has no respect for any decision that anybody made — [including] the queen … it’s so bad,” said royal family friend and author Hugo Vickers of Markle.
Sources also said that William will not stand for his brother and his wife’s antics when he’s King. “It’s no secret William wants Harry more harshly dealt with. He thinks he has betrayed the family from top to bottom, which is the ultimate Windsor crime. It wouldn’t take much to provoke him to flex his muscles when he is king,” a palace insider told The Daily Beast. A former courtier says the original deal “made it clear they had agreed not to use the HRH titles at all, ever, in any capacity.” They also added, “Charles might be happy to put up with this, but William won’t. He loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body, he believes they have betrayed everything the family stands for and the idea that they are using their royal status as a calling card will enrage him.”
