Prince Harry revealed where he really stands with his family in a new interview. The Duke of Sussex talked about how his security legal appeal caused tensions with his family and wants to reconcile with his father, King Charles.
After losing his appeal, he talked to the BBC about how he would like to talk to his father again. “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he said about his father who was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.” He also added that his father should be open to reconciliation and help solve his security problem. “There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” he said. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts do what is necessary.”
A friend of Harry’s also added that his father won’t respond to his calls. “He gets ‘unavailable right now,'” the friend told People last year. “His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
Prince Harry traveled back to his home country in April to settle legal disputes regarding his security detail in the U.K. The Duke is fighting to have his state-funded security detail when he and his family are in England. Going through the process for Harry “uncovered” his “worst fears”. He said of losing the decision: “I’m devastated – not so much as devastated with the loss that I am about the people behind the decision, feeling as though this is okay. Is it a win for them?”
He continued: “I’m sure there are some people out there, probably most likely the people that wish me harm, [who] consider this a huge win.”
One family member who might wish him harm is Prince William, who might remove Prince Harry’s tites once he’s king. A source told The Daily Beast: “Charles might be happy to put up with this, but William won’t. He loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body, he believes they have betrayed everything the family stands for and the idea that they are using their royal status as a calling card will enrage him.”
On top of that, a friend of William’s also shared with the outlet that “Charles has completely lost control. It’s apparent that Harry and Meghan have every intention of making his final years a misery, just as he feared they would. Meghan using her HRH exposes how weak and enfeebled he is. She knows he won’t do anything. There is no way King William will stand for this. The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found.”
At the end of the day, Harry wants to keep his family safe and make amends. “Whether you’re the government, the Royal Household, whether you’re my dad, my family – despite all of our differences, do you not want to just ensure our safety?” he told the BBC. Asked whether he missed the UK after moving to Montecito, Calif., he added: “I love my country, I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done… and I think that it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
He concluded, “This, at the heart of it, is a family dispute, and it makes me really, really sad that we’re sitting here today, five years later, where a decision that was made most likely, in fact I know, to keep us under the roof.”
