With the First Monday in May quickly approaching many eagle-eyed fans might be wondering if a Royal would be in attendance. If not the Royals, then maybe a couple who stepped back from their Royal duties and leaning into Hollywood like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Met Gala is held every first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the theme for this year is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” based on Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The Royals usually don’t make an attendance at the fashion fundraiser with the exceptions of Princess Diana in 1997 and Princess Beatrice in 2018. However, Meghan Markle has been regularly making appearances at events in the Big Apple like the Time 100 event.

As for who’s in charge of invites, that would be Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. Co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams will also influence the event. Lebron James will serve as an honorary co-chair.

Is Prince Harry & Meghan Markle going to the Met Gala?

It’s not confirmed whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are going to the Met Gala. However, there is a somewhat open invitation for Meghan to attend from noneother than Anna Wintour herself. “I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge [Kate’s then-title prior to becoming the Princess of Wales] together,” Wintour said during an interview with Today in 2019 before Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties. “That would be my dream couple.”

Meghan’s been busy making moves with her new business As Ever… and Netflix series With Love, Meghan where she gets to showcase her lifestyle hacks and shares personal tips and tricks. Meanwhile, Prince Harry just lost his a legal appeal for his security detailing in the U.K. and the decision devastated him. The Sussexes lost the state funding to their U.K. security and Harry claims his father could fix it, while also extending an olive branch

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he told the BBC after the decision was made. “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.” He continued emphasizing reuniting with his father amid his cancer treatment. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”

There’s an added layer of drama with sources saying that Meghan Markle wants to use her HRH title to “stay relevant” according to Express. “Meghan hates the royal family and UK, yet flouts [the HRH] for her personal gain. It’s appalling. Everything about her is a contradiction,” one royal insider told Page Six. Another source confirmed to the gossip site that they have also used their HRH titles when traveling and in their stationery. It was recently revealed that Meghan used the Her Royal Highness title when sending Jamie Kern Lima, the CEO of IT Cosmetics, a homemade gift basket with a note that said, “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” The Page Six insider called Markle’s letterhead “disgraceful” and “shocking,” adding she has no right to [use the HRH style].
