Here’s Where Justin Bieber Really Was as Hailey Attended the Met Gala by Herself Amid Divorce Speculation

Hailey Bieber went dateless to the 2025 Met Gala as her husband, Justin Bieber, was nowhere to be found. Hailey, who has been married to Justin since 2018, was seen solo as she left for the Met Gala on May 5, 2025, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
In a video obtained by WWD, Hailey was seen in a blazer dress as she walked to her car with a martini in hand and security and photographers following her. Photos of Hailey leaving the hotel showed her with the same martini glass and her wedding ring on. Hailey last attended the Met Gala in 2022, where she wore a Saint Laurent gown. She also walked the red carpet at the event in 2021 with Justin, where she again wore Saint Laurent. Justin, for his part, wore his own brand, Drew House.
Where was Justin Bieber and why wasn’t he at the Met Gala with Hailey?
While Hailey was in New York City, Justin seemed to be on vacation in Iceland. The day of the Met Gala, he shared an Instagram video of snowy mountains and a clear body of water as he drove down the road in Iceland. “best trip of my life,” he captioned the video.
He also posted several other Instagram posts of him at a house with friends as he enjoyed his view. He also shared several Instagram videos of him playing golf. The day before the Met Gala, Justin sparked concern when he posted a photo of himself appearing to smoke a bong on Instagram. In the photo, Justin was seen in the background sitting outdoors with his mouth on what appeared to be a bong as his friend and Australian singer-songwriter and music producer Eddie Benjamin played a guitar inside the house. Another photo also showed Justin standing outside on a balcony with what looked like a bong behind his foot.
“Don’t do that shit you’re one of my favorites. Don’t even smoke weed shit. Leave that man,” a user commented on the post. “Always thought @justinbieber was better than that. At least keep it out of the public view. You’re not setting a good example,” another user wrote, seemingly referencing Justin and Hailey’s son, Jack Blues.
The day before, a source told Page Six that those close to Justin were concerned for his spending. “People are worried about him,” the insider said. “He’s literally going on [Instagram] live, smoking weed and looking out of his mind.” The source continued, “He’s flying in all his friends on private jets to his birthday party, putting it all over Instagram… He’ll spend $300,000 at the Nobu at Coachella. He hasn’t worked in a really long time.”
Despite Justin’s alleged spending, the source also claimed that he has a project i the works. “He’s making music, he’s helping to run a fashion brand, he’s a new father — he’s got a lot of things going on in his life,” the insider said.
Justin’s missing appearance at the Met Gala also comes amid rumors he and Hailey are headed toward divorce. A source denied the rumors to People in April 2025. “Hailey is not on the verge of wanting a divorce or leaving him. It’s just completely untrue,” the source said. “If anything she’s sad about how hard everyone is being on him now that he finally is coming back out of his shell.”
The insider continued, “She’s been in tears about his behavior lately. Things have gotten bad quickly. She’s genuinely scared something bad is going to happen to Justin.”
Justin not attending the Met Gala 2025 with Hailey also isn’t confirmation that there are issues in their relationship as Hailey also attended the 2022 Met Gala solo when she and Justin were still together.
