With Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s trial of the century fast approaching, there has been one question on Swifties’ minds: Will Taylor Swift testify? Well, after months of reports over her surprising association to the case, fans may finally have their answer.
Lively’s lawyer, Mike Gottlieb, suggested to People in May 2025 that it’s unlikely Swift—or other celebrities associated with the case like Hugh Jackman—will be called to testify because the trial, ultimately, is about what happened between Lively and Baldoni.
“It’s completely unclear what claims or defenses in the case any of these celebrities… have any relevance to at all,” he said. “This is a case about what happened to Blake Lively when she raised claims of sexual harassment on the set. It’s not a case about how songs were chosen for the movie. It’s not a case about fictional Marvel characters in Deadpool movies.”

He continued, “You have to ask the question, then, why are these people being subpoenaed? Do they have any actual relevance to the case at hand? You can’t just go around subpoenaing people because they’re famous and you think it will generate a bunch of headlines. And the federal courts don’t tolerate that kind of behavior.”
While it’s unlikely that Swift and Jackman will testify, Gottlieb confirmed that both Lively will take the stand. “Yes,” Gottlieb said when asked if Lively will testify. “The ultimate moment for a plaintiff’s story to be told is at trial. We expect that to be the case here [with Lively]. So we would, of course, expect her to be a witness at her trial. Of course she’s going to testify.”
As for Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, who co-starred with Jackman in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine and wrote a scene for It Ends With Us, Gottlieb was unsure if he would testify. Reynolds is currently named as a defendant in Baldoni’s countersuit, though Lively’s team is working to get those claims dismissed.
Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, pushed back against Gottlieb suggesting that Swift and Reynolds shouldn’t testify. “Although obviously uncomfortable for the Lively parties, the truth is not a distraction. The truth has been clearly shown through unedited receipts, documents and real life footage. More to come,” Freedman told People. “Blake was the one who brought her high-profile friends into this situation without concern for their own personal or public backlash. As the truth shows, she used her Dragons to manipulate Justin at every turn.”
He continued of Reynolds, “Ryan’s involvement is very well documented and we continue to discover more intentional misconduct. Was Disney actually complicit in Ryan using shareholder revenues to further a personal grudge? I would be surprised to learn that this type of corporate waste would not lead to much more exposure for those that have been complicit in affecting shareholder revenue.”
The update to whether Swift would testify comes months after TMZ reported that Swift felt used by Lively in her legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. According to court documents, Lively , Reynolds, and Baldoni met at Lively and Reynolds’ New York City penthouse while filming It Ends With Us in 2023 to discuss a scene that Lively had rewritten. According Baldoni’s lawsuit, Swift arrived in the middle of the meeting and “began praising Lively’s script.” The lawsuit continued, “Baldoni understood the subtext: he needed to comply with Lively’s direction for the script.”
According to TMZ, Swift was unaware that anyone would be at Lively and Reynolds’ apartment and only arrived when Lively told her to. The source claimed that Baldoni was just about to leave the two-hour meeting when Swift arrived. Per the insider, Swift introduced herself to Baldoni for the first and only time. The source also alleged that all Swift told Baldoni was how excited she was to see It Ends With Us because he was her friend’s director.
Another insider told TMZ that Swift believes Lively timed her meeting with Baldoni so she would arrive before he left. The source also reported that Swift was confused by Lively referring to her as her “dragon.” “It’s weird to say that about a friend,” the insider said. TMZ also claimed that Swift recently learned that Lively has been leveraging her name for a while and told a young actress that Swift “cast her” in a project, which didn’t happen.
A source told People in April 2025 that Swift and Lively’s relationship is on the mend, which may explain why Lively’s legal team is trying to avoid having Swift testify.
“Blake knew she and Taylor would come back from this at some point and that their friendship wasn’t done for good,” a source told the magazine at the time. “Taylor was really hurt by this situation, so she’s relieved they were able to recover from this and put it all behind them because it wasn’t something she took lightly.”
