Brad Pitt is officially ready to move on from Angelina Jolie. Pitt broke his silence on his divorce from his ex-wife in an interview with GQ in May 2025, in which he was asked if he felt “relief” after he and Jolie legally settled their eight-year divorce in December 2024.

“No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,” he said. “Just something coming to fruition. Legally.” Jolie first filed for divorce in September 2016. They were declared legally single in 2019, however, it wasn’t until December 2024 that the two officially finalized their divorce, with Jolie’s legal team filing court documents that she had waived “any right to receive” spousal support from Pitt “forever.”

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, said in a statement at the time.

He continued, “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

Pitt and Jolie share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. All the kids, aside from Knox and Vivienne, are legal adults. Pitt‘s rare comment about his divorce from Jolie also come after a source told People in July 2024 that Pitt has “virtually no contact” with his adult children.

“He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule,” the insider said. The source also explained that the couple’s custody agreement allows visitation rights to their minor children.

“[Angelina] has the kids most of the time, but per their agreement, he has visitation with the younger kids,” the insider said. A source also confirmed to People in June 2024 that Pitt was “aware” of his and Jolie’s daughte, Shiloh, dropping “Pitt” from her last name after she turned 18 years old.

“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” the insider said. “The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”

As for the reason for their split, another source told People in July 2024 that Jolie and Pitt “clashed” over their different parenting styles. “During their marriage, they had very different parenting styles. Brad grew up with structure and wanted more rules for the kids,” the source said. “Angie had a different upbringing and wanted the kids to be more independent and responsible for their own schedules from a young age.”

The insider continued, “Brad and Angie clashed over this. However, they did always have the same vision for their kids’ future. They wanted the kids to thrive by experiencing the world first-hand and not only learn from traditional schooling.”

Despite their disagreement over how their kids should be raised, a second source claimed that both Jolie and Pitt “care” about their family. “They still both really care,” the insider said. “They both care about the children.”
