So far, the British royal family drama has been limited to the adults. And there’s enough drama to go around there. King Charles is sick—with reports about how sick changing by the week. He is also in a feud with his son, Prince Harry, with the two reportedly not on speaking terms. Prince William and Prince Harry are also not getting along. And every day someone wants to speculate about whether Prince William and Kate Middleton or Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting a divorce.
But it seems like if any feud is escalating, it’s the one between William and Harry. And it might now involve Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Guardian reported days ago that, “The Guardian understands that Prince Harry wants to keep the HRH titles for his children so that when they grow older they can decide for themselves whether they want to become working royals, or stay out of public life.”

The suggestion, however, seemed absurd to those close to Prince William, with one friend telling The Daily Beast: “William obviously isn’t going to hire Archie and Lilibet. This is just trolling on the part of Harry and Meghan.” That friend also added. “The idea that somehow having a vestigial HRH as a baby later entitles you to be a working royal is beyond parody, even for them.”
“Harry and Meghan were asked by the queen to stop using their HRHs, and agreed,” the friend continued. “Obviously, any reasonable person would understand that would mean your kids don’t use them either.”
Moreover, another friend told the outlet that the titles will likely be officially removed once Prince William becomes King. “They have asked the Sussexes politely to stop using the style, to no avail, so I imagine William will simply issue new letters patent to formally remove the entire family’s right to use HRH when he becomes king.”
A former courtier even told the outlet, “Charles may not want this fight, but William despises Harry and Meghan at this stage, and when he is king his fury will rain down on them.”
This supports recent reports that have painted the relationship between the brothers as practically unfixable. Reports that Prince William was ready to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles as soon as he became King have been circulating for months. “It’s no secret William wants Harry more harshly dealt with. He thinks he has betrayed the family from top to bottom, which is the ultimate Windsor crime. It wouldn’t take much to provoke him to flex his muscles when he is king,” a palace insider told The Daily Beast.
Now, it seems like with William determined to shape what the monarchy looks like going forward, that might extend to his niece and nephew, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. And considering how little the family has seen of each other in the past few years, it seems likely William won’t even be stopped by the fact that these are his brother’s kids. At this point, the feud has gone beyond that.
