It’s no secret that the relationship between Prince Harry and the rest of his family, particularly his father, King Charles, isn’t exactly thriving. Prince Harry himself confirmed the reports in his latest BBC interview by saying he was hoping for a reconciliation with his father, particularly as he didn’t know how much time King Charles had left after being diagnosed with cancer. And his relationship with his brother William seems to be as bad as the relationship with his father.

Now, however, there are reports that Prince Harry is taking a big step towards facilitating that reconciliation, and that this is the kind of step that could perhaps be well received by his family. The Mail on Sunday quoted a source who reported that Prince Harry is set to invite his family to the Invictus Games, which are set to be held in the UK in 2027, calling it an “olive branch” and reporting that Prince Harry “agreed” that his family should be invited.

“Invictus hopes the royal family will come along to support the wounded veterans taking part. Harry is hopeful his father will set aside their differences to attend the Invictus Games and support veterans,” the source added. “The royals have always been hugely supportive of Invictus and proud of what Harry has achieved in that arena. This is one olive branch from him which might be reciprocated,” the report also said.

According to the outlet, invitations will be sent via email as soon as this summer, but have yet to be finalized.

The Invictus Games are set to take place in Birmingham from July 10 to July 17, 2027, with the closing of the games coinciding with the 80th birthday of Queen Camilla. That might make a possible attendance by the royal family complicated, but with the games two years away, it’s unlikely schedules will be set so far in advance. That means anything can still happen.

Reports of this olive branch come amid allegations that “there is no turning back” for the relationship between King Charles and Prince Harry. Royals expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News in June 2025 that, even though Charles is still “tender” toward reconciling with his son, William has “shut the door” on Harry, and believes their father should follow suit.

King Charles remains tender towards his son, but can’t risk communication. Prince William now has absolutely no interest in mending fences. Those close to the king say he [shouldn’t] make peace with Harry in a way that would burden Prince William’s future reign. The animosity is so deep that William has shut the door on Harry. Charles is not willing to go against his heir’s wishes.”

And that’s not all, as another source told the outlet that Prince William and Prince Harry might not cross paths again until King Charles dies. “The funeral of Charles would be the first time that courtiers would imagine [them reuniting],” the source said. “I can’t imagine William would invite Harry to his coronation.”

Perhaps the Invictus Games can change everything? Only time will tell.
