King Charles isn’t meeting up with President Donald Trump over the summer. The Monarch originally had plans to meet up with the Commander-in-Chief in Scotland, but royal protocol got in the way.

Just last week, a “Manu Regia,” written by Charles, was hand-delivered to Trump’s desk. Buckingham Palace confirmed an invitation signed by the King was sent overseas. “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year,” a Buckingham Palace aide told the BBC.

Though the dates of Trump’s official state visit aren’t known, it’s likely to be held in September. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner told Parliament: “We are really pleased the US president is coming for a second state visit.”

Charles and Trump were originally going to meet in Scotland in the summer after the President was going to visit his new golf course in Aberdeenshire. King Charles and his family usually spend their summers in Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and it was a contender for an informal meetup.

Earlier in the year, King Charles reportedly wrote a letter to President Trump, looking for another state dinner. “Quite apart from this presenting an opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest, it would also offer a valuable chance to plan a historic second state visit to the United Kingdom. As you will know, this is unprecedented by a US president. That is why I would find it helpful for us to be able to discuss, together, a range of options for location and programme content,” Trump said about the letter.

“Everyone who was around at the time when the President visited recalls it with genuine warmth and actually both the team and the principals were incredibly courteous, polite, engaged and engaging, a royal source told Newsweek. “So it’s one of those visits that’s remembered with great affection and positivity here.”

“London part of trip is going really well,” he wrote on X in 2019. “The Queen and the entire Royal family have been fantastic. The relationship with the United Kingdom is very strong.

“Tremendous crowds of well-wishers and people that love our Country. Haven’t seen any protests yet, but I’m sure the Fake News will be working hard to find them. Great love all around. Also, big Trade Deal is possible once U.K. gets rid of the shackles. Already starting to talk!”

The meeting comes after President Trump was accused of stealing Charles’ thunder when he staged his version of a royal military parade, on the same day of the royal tradition of Trooping the ColourVanity Fair writer Erin Vanderhoof said “the purposes of the two parades couldn’t be more different,” but comparisons seem inveitable.
