Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are officially over. TMZ reported on June 25, 2025, that the singer and actor had ended their engagement after nine years together.

Perry and Bloom started dating in January 2016 after meeting at a Golden Globes party. They got engaged in 2019 and welcomed their first and only child, a daughter named Daisy, in 2020. While the couple never got married—they were originally set to wed in Japan in summer 2020 before postponing their wedding—fans were still shocked to learn of their split.

The day news broke of Perry and Bloom’s breakup, the actor was photographed arriving in Venice, Italy, for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding, where he was seen giving fellow guest Kim Kardashian a quick kiss as they greeted each other, as seen in photos obtained by the Daily Mail. The moment came less than a year after a photo went viral of Bloom checking out Kardashian’s butt at an event in New York City in September 2024.

Perry, who was still with Bloom at the time, addressed the photo in an interview on the Elvis Duran Show that same month. “It’s you taking a photo with Kim Kardashian, and Orlando is staring at her,’ the host said, describing the photo. Perry responded, “I approve. So wait, what’s the controversy?”

While Bloom seems ready to move on, where does Perry stand?

Why did Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom break up?

A source told Us Weekly in June 2025 that, while Perry is “upset,” she’s “relieved” that she and Bloom never got married. “Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable. It’s not contentious at the moment. Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life,” the insider said, referencing Perry’s 2012 divorce from ex-husband Russell Brand.

The insider also revealed that Bloom and Perry’s breakup has been a “long time coming” as things between them “have been tense for months.” While Bloom attended Bezos and Sanchez’s wedding, Perry has been “keeping busy” on her Lifetimes tour and is “distracted” by work. The source also confirmed that Perry and Bloom are no longer living together as the singer is “renting out” her Westcott Estate in Montecito, California.

“But her and Orlando have always lived in their other Montecito home as their primary residence,” the source continues, adding that the couple were “planning on making the Westcott home their family home but plans have changed” and “have been living apart since Katy has been on tour.”

The split came weeks after a source told People that “stress” over the negative reception to Perry’s recent album, 143, which came out in September 2024, played a part in her and Bloom’s issues. “Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album,” the insider said. “It made her very stressed. Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension.” The source continued, “She was also disappointed in some of the tour reviews. It’s put stress on their relationship.”

A source also told the Daily Mail at the time that Bloom attending the wedding of Bezos and Sanchez, whom she went on the Blue Origin space trip with in April 2025, also caused issues in their relationship.

“Katy feels like they’re really her friends more than his, and yet he’s the one going to the wedding,” the insider said. “And he’s insistent that he goes, which annoys her because he’s not particular close to either of them. She feels like it’s a ‘fuck you’ to her from him.”

The insider also claimed that Bloom disapproved of Perry traveling to space. He told her the whole thing looked ridiculous,” the source said. “He said it was cringeworthy. Embarrassing. This was in the middle of a fight, and it hurt her feelings.”

A week before confirmation of their split, a source told The Sun that Perry didn’t want to “give up” on her relationship with Bloom. “They both love each other, but they have been living different lives for at least a year and in different mindsets,” the insider said. “But Katy especially doesn’t want to just give up.”

The source claimed that Perry’s tour caused the “biggest disruption” in her life with Bloom. “Katy and Orlando have been disconnected for a while now, and with their work commitments have been living separate lives. The insider revealed that the original plan was for Perry and bloom to reunite over the July 4 break, however, they called it quits before then.

“They have barely been together for a decent amount of time, without distractions, for many, many months,” the insider said. “It has been ‘go, go, go’ and they thrived when they enjoyed a more settled life, being together in the same place for a length of time. But that has just not happened.”

The source continued, “It is quite a lot more complicated than that. They have been apart for their longest amount of time since they have been together. Anyone in long term relationships goes through challenges, and many times when things appear to be done, couples reconnect and make things work.”
