There’s an expectation that the governments of the UK and the US will maintain a good diplomatic relationship at all times, and part of that involves the British Royal family and whoever is President of the US at any given time. At this point, the US President is Donald Trump, and though there have been multiple reports about his relationship with King Charles, particularly after Trump criticized Canada and had a birthday parade the same day as Trooping the Colour, people are now wondering about Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship with the President of the United States and what it could be in years to come.

President Trump has just been invited by King Charles to visit him in the UK. “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year,” a Buckingham Palace aide told the BBC. And both Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to be there to meet with him, as well. In fact, Jennie Bond, a veteran royal insider, referred to Middleton as the “icing on the cake” for Donald Trump.

“The icing on the cake for Donald Trump would, of course, be the presence of the Princess of Wales at some of the events and at the state dinner,” Bond told The Mirror. However, with the Princess of Wales curating her engagements more and more after recovering from cancer—she recently skipped the Royal Ascot—this would all be dependent on how she feels.

The insider also revealed Prince William is expected to play a significant role in the state visit. “President Trump appears to have taken a shine to William after their meeting at Notre Dame. So I’m sure we shall see Prince William taking a prominent role in the state visit,” she said. In fact, considering how important the visit is for British diplomacy, Bond was sure both Prince William and Kate Middleton would make every effort to appear.

“I’m sure both William and Catherine recognize the importance of massaging the President’s ego, and they will play as prominent a part as possible,” she said, adding, “It’s what the monarch and his senior working royals must do; it’s their job and their duty and they will do it well.”

President Trump last visited the UK on a state visit in 2019. There are no publicly available details about the schedule for the visit, though Trump received the first correspondence from the King directly from Prime Minister Keir Starmer in February, and spoke about it during a press conference with the Prime Minister.

“They’re going to do a second fest… that’s what it is: a fest, and it’s beautiful, and it’s the first time it’s ever happened to one person,” the President said. “It’s an honour… I’m a friend of Charles, I have great respect for King Charles and the family, William, we have really just a great respect for the family,” he added.

“I think they’re setting a date for September,” Trump also said.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see the specifics, but it looks like when President Donald Trump makes it to the UK, he will be greeted by not just the King, but also Prince William and Kate Middleton.
