The Real Reason Trump Didn’t Attend Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sanchez’s Wedding After the Amazon Founder’s Complicated History With the President

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding guest list included a who’s who of billionaires, from Oprah Winfrey to Kim Kardashian, but one name missing was President Donald Trump.
White House officials confirmed to The Wall Street Journal in June 2025 that Trump—whose daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner attended Bezos’ wedding—was invited to the Amazon founder’s nuptials, however, he was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. The day of Bezos and Sanchez’s wedding, Trump held a press briefing at the White House following the Supreme Court’s ruling in the birthright citizenship case, Trump v. CASA.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Bezos, who is the founder of the spaceflight company Blue Origin, spoke to Trump at least twice in the month of his wedding, in a push for more government contracts following Trump’s social media feud with rival billionaire space company founder, Elon Musk, at the start of June 2025. Blue Origin CEO David Limp also visited Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, at the White House the month of the Amazon founder’s wedding.
“The Trump Administration is committed to a rigorous review process for all bids and contracts, prioritizing the best deal for America and leveraging the most advanced and innovative technology,” White House principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields told the Daily Beast. “Decisions will be made at the appropriate time, based on thorough evaluation, and will not be previewed in the press.”
Many speculate that Bezos’ invitation for Trump to attend his wedding was a way to get on his good side as Blue Origin, like many of its rival space companies, relies on government contracts for steady income, credibility, and access to major U.S. space projects.
A source told The Wall Street Journal that Bezos “really” wanted to host Trump at his wedding as a “charm offensive” in exchange for valuable government contracts for Blue Origin.
Trump and Bezos didn’t seem to be on good terms during Trump’s first presidency, with Trump criticizing both Amazon and The Washington Post, which Bezos owns, and referring to him as “Jeff Bozo.” Bezos’ relationship with Trump seemed to have improved ahead of Trump’s second term when Amazon donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. Bezos, along with Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, all attended Trump’s second inauguration, sitting in what has become known as the “billionaires’ row.”
While Bezos’ wedding was attended by Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the nuptials also featured guests like Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Eva Longoria, and more A-listers who opposed Trump’s re-election in November 2024—which could be another reason that the president chose not to attend the event.
Along with working with Trump to grow Blue Origin, Bezos and Trump also made headlines in April 2025 when Punchbowl News reported that Amazon planned to display tariffs next to product prices on its website. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the report “hostile and political” and accused Amazon of partnering with a “Chinese propaganda arm,” in reference to a 2021 Reuters report about Amazon removing reviews on President Xi Jinping’s speeches and writing.
The president and Amazon founder to have smoothed things over quickly, however, after a reportedly “pissed” Trump called Bezos, and Amazon released released a statement stating that it had only considered the tariff feature but didn’t go forward with it.
Trump also discussed the call with Bezos at a press briefing at the time. “He was terrific,” he said. “He solved a problem very quickly, and he did the right thing, and he’s a good guy.”
