The trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs has been one of the most watched cases of the 21st century. After months of hearings, the music mogul was found not guilty of three serious charges out of five.

The highly publicized trial started on May 12, 2025, in Downtown Manhattan. Dozens of eyewitnesses, personal assistants, victims, and label artists testified against Combs in court. Cassie Ventura, who was Diddy’s girlfriend from 2007 to 2018, gave an emotional testimony of what happened during their relationship and the various “freak offs” she was subjected to.

On the morning of July 2, 2025, Combs was found not guilty of one count of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, but guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. According to reports from the New York Times, the “I’ll Be Missing You” artist celebrated the decision in the courtroom with his family.

How long will Diddy serve in jail after his conviction?

The prosecution faces up to 20 years in prison; each of the Mann Act counts carry up to 10 years each. The prostitution-related charges relate to violations of the Mann Act. Combs’ defense attorney Marc Agnifilo asked U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian to release him from federal detention and offered a $1 million bond. The decision will be made by Judge Subramanian at 1 p.m. EST after the court adjourned for a break.

“This is his first conviction and it’s a prostitution offense and so he should be released on appropriate conditions,” Agniflio argued. The defense asked for Combs to return to his home in Miami Beach, Fla.

Since his arrest in September 2024, Diddy has been held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The record mogul has been sporting gray hair since his arrest. “I have a client who spent 25 years in federal prison somewhere else, and he’s like, ‘Get me the hell out of the MDC,’” defense lawyer Xavier Donaldson told NBC News. “It has a way of breaking people.”

Cassie’s lawyer Douglas H. Wigdor, addressed the verdicts outside the courtroom, saying that he’s glad Combs was “held accountable for something.” The lawyer continued, “He’s finally been held responsible for two federal crimes, something that he’s never faced in his life.”

Deliberations took a total of 13 hours. Jurors consisted of of eight men and four women who range in age from 30 to 74 and live in Manhattan, Westchester County and the Bronx. They were deadlocked on the racketeering conspiracy charge the previous day. Combs visibly thanked the jurors during the verdict.
