If there’s one thing we’ve always known about Kate Middleton, it’s that, despite the drama that she’s firmly in the middle of because of her marriage to William, she gets along great with her own family. Sure, she might be dealing with King Charles’ illness and Prince William and Prince Harry’s continued feud, but Kate has always had her sister Pippa Middleton to rely on.
Now, with the Wimbledon tennis grand slam just starting, reports about last year’s tournaments are surfacing. Middleton is a regular at the event, and last year she was joined by both her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and her sister Pippa for the men’s final, which Carlos Alcaraz won. Kate, who is a patron of the AELTC, presents the trophies at the end of the match and gets to meet the players behind the scenes.

It was then that cameras reportedly caught an awkward moment for Pippa Middleton while Kate was chatting to Carlos Alcaraz. Kate introduced her daughter, and as the conversation was wrapping up, Pippa put her hand up and appeared to step forward to speak to him. Alcaraz, however, was already walking away, and though Kate tried to introduce her sister, it was already too late to do so.
Of course, this happened a year ago, but with chances Middleton and perhaps other members of her family will attend the event this year, it’s come back into the spotlight. This is particularly true now, as rumors that the two sisters are not as close as they once were are proliferating.
RadarOnline reported earlier in the year that they were on the outs, as their lives “couldn’t be more different.” According to NewIdea, Kate is reportedly “missing more and more of her old family” due to her increased royal duties.
“Kate is painfully aware that things have been changing for a while. The pressures of her public role have only increased since Queen Elizabeth passed away, pushing her husband and kids up in the line of succession,” a source told the publication. “The unfortunate collateral of that has been losing the laid-back Middleton family way of things she holds so dear … especially her once incredibly close relationship with her little sister.”
Pippa, who is married to James Matthews, appears to have retreated from Kate’s social circle. When Kate announced she was battling cancer last year, her brother James put out a statement, but Pippa did not.
However, other insiders disagree. “There has been no falling out between Kate and Pippa,” another royal insider said. “I don’t think that would ever happen. Of course, there are sometimes issues between sisters, but they have always had each other’s backs.”
According to the source, the two have “simply grown slightly apart” as it’s normal since they’re both busy moms. “Pippa and her husband are incredibly well-off and enjoy a private country life, whereas Kate is preparing her children to be the public faces of the monarchy. It’s chalk and cheese. I’m sure they still spend time together behind closed doors, but for now, it seems Pippa has no interest in stepping back into the spotlight alongside Kate.”
