As one of the richest men in the world (only second to Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg), there has been a lot of interest in Jeff Bezos’ wealth and how much money he actually has for years. Now, after he married his second wife Lauren Sanchez, news is coming out about how Bezos finances are changing behind the scenes following his iron-clad prenuptial agreement.
While Bezos stepped down as the CEO and president of Amazon in 2021, he took over the role of executive chairman and still owns a majority of the company’s shares, making him Amazon’s largest individual shareholder. However, that could change in the future.
In July 2025, news broke that Bezos had sold almost three million worth of his $665.8 million shares a week after he married his now-wife, Lauren Sanchez, according to a regulatory filing. The sale comes after Bezos also sold $736.7 million of Amazon stock in late June 2025.
As of writing, Bezos still has more than 900 million shares of Amazon, valued at almost $200 billion. He remains the largest shareholder of the company and owns nine percent of the company, according to Forbes.

Bezos is worth $235.8 billion, according to Forbes. Bezos lost part of his fortune after his divorce from his first wife, MacKenzie Scott in 2019. Following their divorce, Bezos, who married Scott without a prenuptial agreement in 2019, transferred a quarter of his then-16-percent Amazon stake to her. Scott alos received a reported $38 billion as part of her divorce settlement.
After his first divorce, Bezos made sure to sign a prenuptial agreement with his second wife, Lauren Sanchez, before their marriage in June 2025, according to Page Six. While the exact details of Bezos and Sanchez’s prenup haven’t been confirmed, experts expect it to be iron-clad after his expensive divorce from his first wife.
“Bezos handled his first divorce as fast as an Amazon delivery,” Christopher Melcher, an attorney and partner at Walzer Melcher & Yoda LLP, told Fox News. “It was quick but not painless. Billions of dollars were at stake, which were earned during marriage and had to be split because there was no premarital agreement.”
Melcher continued, “People sometimes make a new spouse pay the price for their prior failed marriage by insisting on one-sided or overly harsh terms in a premarital agreement. The need for protection is understandable, but it can go too far and harm the relationship by keeping the couple from being true partners.”
Melcher theorized that Bezos had Sanchez sign a prenup to protect his four children with Scott, despite the issues it may cause in his relationship with Sanchez. “For Bezos, his enormous wealth will allow him to be generous in his marriage with Lauren. He has enough money to provide for his existing children, to make charitable donations, while also creating a strong community estate with Lauren,” Melcher said.
He continued, “Because Bezos has children [four children with Scott] and other uses for his money, there is a legitimate need to create some guardrails around his premarital estate. This can be done while also creating a partnership with Lauren. For example, there could be a large upfront payment at date of marriage, like a signing bonus, or a large payment on separation, like a severance.”
