Family relationships are always complicated, and this is true even if you’re royalty. The British royal family has been facing its fair share of drama lately, with King Charles’ illness taking center stage. But that’s not all, as the King allegedly is in the middle of a feud with his son, Prince Harry, one that also involves Prince William. And every day, it seems like a new report gives clues as to whether there can be a reconciliation or not.

The last one seems to point towards no.

King Charles delivered a speech during a state banquet at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, July 8th, and referenced his son, William. There was no mention of Harry in the speech made in honor of the King and Queen, Camilla welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron.

“The castle in which we meet this evening was begun by my ancestor — and your sometime countryman — William, Duke of Normandy, in the year 1070,” Charles said. “It remains the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.” He also added, “So it is perhaps rather appropriate that my son, the Prince of Wales, who shares that earlier William’s name, has made Windsor his home with his family, like so many of our predecessors.”

Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park has been the main residence of Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their kids since 2022.

It might seem like there was no reason to even mention Harry in the first place, but if we add that to the ongoing feud between the King and his youngest son, people are taking it as a sign. Harry had harsh words for the royal family after the issue with his security was decided against him, but later said in a BBC interview that he was hoping for a reconciliation with his father, who he revealed isn’t speaking to him.

“There’s no point continuing to fight anymore, life is precious,” Prince Harry said then, adding that he has since “forgiven” them for their many “disagreements.”

Recent reports have given hope that a reconciliation within the royal family might be in the cards, or that at least King Charles and Prince Harry would find a way to bridge the gap. First, there was the report that Prince Harry is set to invite his family to the Invictus Games,  which are set to be held in the UK in 2027, with sources calling it an “olive branch” and reporting that Prince Harry “agreed” that his family should be invited.

Then, other outlets reported that the King has factored not only Prince Harry but Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, into the heart of his funeral plans. Both are big signs that a reconciliation might be in the cards, or at least, that it’s not as impossible as it once seemed. For now, however, there’s only one son who is involved in Charles’ day-to-day life, and also lives in Windsor, so it made sense for William to be the one mentioned on this particular occasion.
