Health issues can affect everyone, no matter how rich or powerful you are. And singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson has been at the center of conversations about her well-being in the last few months, particularly due to cancellations for both her talk show and her residence. Now, fans are wondering what this means for her health and the future of both her residence and her talk show.
Just last week, Clarkson canceled the opening night of her “Studio Sessions” Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace just 90 minutes before showtime, with Page Six reporting the singer is facing “hidden battles.”
In a statement on Instagram about the cancellation, Clarkson said, “We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars.” She also added, “The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.”
She also gave a timetable for her return. “The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”
This comes after one Vegas Insider told the outlet that, “She belts out every single note. She’s an incredibly powerful singer, but it takes its toll on her vocal cords, and she’s come incredibly close to needing surgery before. “She cannot risk damaging her cords further — she’s on thin ice.”
Reports about Clarkson’s possible health issues have been swirling since she missed 10 episodes of her NBC talk show in March, with guest hosts taking her place, and again missed some episodes in April. Andy Cohen stepped in to host that time. Clarkson didn’t hint at health issues then, just citing personal matters as her reason for taking time off.
The singer has been open about her struggles since her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares two kids, daughter River Rose, and son Remy. In 2023, she told Apple Music, “Just to be brutally honest, I did not handle [the divorce] well.”
A second insider told the outlet, “Kelly’s personal life is so insanely complicated … Kelly is fighting some serious hidden battles that very few people are privy to … it’s a source of emotional and therefore physical distress for her.”
There have also been reports that Clarkson might be ready to quit her talk show after her contract expires in 2026. In May, she got candid while talking about how the NBC show had held her back from going on tour, saying, “We haven’t done a show in a while, y’all, ’cause I have a talk show. It’s like a whole other job.”
