Prince Harry ‘Deeply Stung’ by This King Charles Action During His UK Trip

The relationship between King Charles and his youngest son, Prince Harry, has been complicated for a while. And not even the King’s health concerns have managed to fix the relationship, even though Harry indicated in a recent interview he wanted a reconciliation. That’s because there’s a lot of hurt between the two, which goes back to when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left their positions as working royals, and has gotten worse now, considering the two aren’t talking to each other.

But there’s a chance things might be getting better, or at the very least, that the two will be able to talk about their issues in person. The Invictus Games are set to take place in Birmingham from July 10-17, 2027, with competitors participating in nine core sports, with three new additions – e-sports, pickleball, and laser run. Prince Harry will likely be in attendance. And he might not be the only one.

“We will be delighted if they come over for the year out and for the Games,” Helen Helliwell, CEO of the Invictus Games in Birmingham, told People. “We are so far out it’s impossible for one individual to confirm their plans, but we would be delighted if the Duke were able to come.”

She added, “He founded it and put on the first Games in 2014. That was his vision that’s been realized, and it’s just grown and grown and grown. So to have it back in the U.K. for this eighth iteration, I think, is really special. I think it’s going to be a really special moment for the whole country. But particularly, I think a real sense of pride for him in seeing just how far that movement has come.”

And though there’s no confirmation yet about whether King Charles will attend, it seems like he will indeed be included in the planning. Helliwell told PEOPLE the royal family members are “supporters of the Armed Forces. They’ve been supporters of Invictus since inception in 2014.”

There’s a snag, though. The Games will open on July 12, 2027, and end on July 17, which coincides with Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday.

“Again, we’re two years away, and it’s too soon to confirm who’s going to be there. But obviously, we’d be delighted if members of the royal family were able to attend and would very much welcome their presence in a couple of years’ time.”

This possible reunion for Harry and his father comes after King Charles delivered a speech during a state banquet at Windsor Castle and referenced only his son, William. “The castle in which we meet this evening was begun by my ancestor — and your sometime countryman — William, Duke of Normandy, in the year 1070,” Charles said. “It remains the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.” He also added about his son, “So it is perhaps rather appropriate that my son, the Prince of Wales, who shares that earlier William’s name, has made Windsor his home with his family, like so many of our predecessors.”

However, there have also been recent reports that the King has factored not only Prince Harry but Meghan Markle and their two children into the heart of his funeral plans. Not exactly proof that a reconciliation is in the cards, but at least a good sign that the two might be closer to that face-to-face meeting than they’ve been in a while.
