The feud between King Charles and Prince Harry seems like it’s getting closer to being resolved, but the feud between Prince William and Prince Harry feels as alive as ever. The two brothers haven’t seen eye to eye in years, and though King Charles reportedly wants to reconcile with his son—perhaps an aftereffect of his cancer journey, Prince William doesn’t seem as inclined to do so. And it seems like Kate Middleton is standing firmly beside her husband.
And this all ties to plans for the British Royal Family to welcome US President Donald Trump in September. Royal expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror that Kate Middleton will have an important role when Trump arrives on UK shores, explaining: “Catherine will be the icing on the cake for a man as vain as Donald Trump. To be seen with her will be gold dust in his eyes. And I’m sure she will be there to massage his ego in the most diplomatic, subtle and regal way.”

Buckingham Palace announced this week that Trump is set to visit the UK from September 17 to September 19, very soon after the House of Commons goes on its traditional break. That avoids Trump making an address to parliament. The US President, however, will become the first elected politician in modern history to be granted two state visits to the UK. King Charles is set to host both Trump and his wife Melania at Windsor Castle. No other details of the trip have been made public yet.
A recent parliamentary motion called calling on the speakers of both houses not to allow Trump to give a speech during the state visit. The MPs accused the president of “misogyny, racism and xenophobia”, criticizing “his previous comments on women, refugees and torture.”
During his first term in office, Trump wasn’t exactly kind to Meghan Markle, who was a working member of the royal family at the time. When a reporter told Trump that Markle had not been ‘very kind’ to him when he was running for President, and informed him that Markle had said she’d move to Canada if he won, Trump reportedly responded, “No, I didn’t know that she was nasty.” The President, however, later denied using the word.
“Fake News CNN is at it again, falsely claiming President Trump called Meghan Markle ‘nasty,’” Trump later tweeted, along with a short audio clip of the president’s interview. “Here is what he actually said. Listen for yourself!”
Markle referred to Trump as “divisive” and branded him “misogynistic” during a 2016 appearance on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. Markle and Prince Harry are no longer working royals and now live in the United States with their two kids, so they are unlikely to come up during the President’s new visit to the UK. But, King Charles is clearly hoping that Trump, who has previously said favorable things about both King Charles and Prince William, likes Kate Middleton a lot more than Meghan Markle.
