When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the British royal family and moved to the United States, they had to build a new inner circle. And some of the people in that inner circle, as we saw in Meghan Markle’s Netflix lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, are very much familiar faces to the public. This is to be expected, considering Markle was an actress before she married Prince Harry.

But the couple, who are really private, is also reportedly very sensitive about what those friends share. And this is all coming to light because of a particular comment made by Oprah, who has famously been one of the couple’s friends for years. She, after all, attended their wedding and conducted their first interview since stepping down from their royal duties. But what did Oprah say?

During an appearance on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, Winfrey referred to the couple as “Sussexes,” adding a few “xes” to the royal title. She did this multiple times as she recounted a specific story about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that involved ducks. “I get a call from Harry, Prince Harry, on Easter Saturday, and he says, ‘Sorry to bother you, O, but we have a duck problem here,'” she said, trying for a British accent.

“A duck had come into their yard and laid their eggs and had these chicks,” she continued. “And he said, ‘Our pond is a stream, we don’t have a pond, so can we bring the ducks over to your pond?'”

But animals hardly ever listen, as Winprefy, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle would find out when the couple brought over the ducks. “As he opens the door, the mama duck flies out. And he’s got all the baby ducks in a box,” Winfrey said. “We’re chasing the mama duck who is in the front yard and has flown to the other side. We’ve got her ducks. Harry’s running after, Meghan gets out, she’s running after, chasing the mom and trying to get her to come back to her ducks.”

“And for like half an hour, we’re running around with the ducks in a box. We have video. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen,” she said, ending the story.

Sharing the duck story didn’t seem to be a problem for Harry and Meghan, but the joke about their name is. According to Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop the two are “stung” by the joke. And while Winfrey “meant no harm,” the two are “sensitive” to things that “make them sound like a meme.” This is particularly true considering they saw Winfrey as a “trusted media ally.”

“Let’s just say… the Sussexes probably aren’t clucking with joy,” the insider also said.

All of this comes as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly closer to a reconciliation with the British royal family and particularly King Charles than they’ve been in a while. Harry has been in a feud with his father and brother, but recently said in an interview that, “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” adding, “Life is precious. Forgiveness is 100 percent a possibility because I would like to get my father and brother back.”

Might this be a reason they’re reportedly really concerned about optics right now? We will have to wait and see.
