Taylor Swift’s Rumored Romance Confirmed Whether ‘Wildest Dreams’ Is Really About Him: ‘I’m Going to Be Honest…’
It’s one of the theories that left Swifties stumped. Alexander Skarsgård got real about the Taylor Swift song that everyone thinks is about him.
The rumor resurfaced when Skarsgård appeared on Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert. “This one’s gonna be tough for you,” Dax said, before diving into an explanation that he told his and Kristen Bell’s kids that “Wildest Dreams” was written for him. “And then in my f—king research today, I read that the song’s about you!” he said to the True Blood star.” I have to kill you! You can’t exist because I told my children that song’s about me.
Skarsgård responded, “Wait, she saw you in the audience. She’s like, ‘I’m going to sing this song.’ Like, maybe it is about you. I wasn’t in the crowd in Lisbon. I wasn’t there so it was clearly about you.” He also talked about how the intensity of Swift’s fanbase affected him to not answer whether “Wildest Dreams” was about him. However, he respects the singer and her fan base. “Aren’t we all? We’re all Swifties,” Skarsgård said.
“I’m going to be honest. I wrote the lyrics of that song myself,” the actor joked. “‘Hey Taylor, here’s what you should say!’ A lot of people can be bad but can’t do it well.”
Swift and Skarsgård were speculated to be dating in 2013 when they both starred in the film The Giver. What added fuel to the fire on the rumor mill was when the Lover singer released the music video for “Wildest Dreams.” In the video, Swift donned black hair like she did in her role of Rosemary in the film. The love interest in the video looked similar to Skarsgård, depending on who you’re asking. However, the two never confirmed their romance.
Shepard gushed and emphasized that “the line” from the 1989 song was “He’s so bad, but he does it so well.” To which Skarsgård explained, “A lot of people can be bad, but can you do it well? You cannot do it well.”
Swift has written a lot of songs about her lovers like Joe Jonas (“Forever and Always”) and Jake Gyllenhaal (“All Too Well”). A bulk of her songs from her recent album The Tortured Poets Department are about her romances with Joe Alwyn, Matty Healy, and her current beau Travis Kelce. Will we ever find the real subject of “Wildest Dreams?” Time can only tell.
