RIP to the Prince of Darkness. Ozzy Osbourne was a pioneer in heavy metal and his legacy will remain in the hearts of metalheads.
Osbourne’s family announced that the Black Sabbath singer died on July 22, 2024. He was 76. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” Osbourne’s family confirmed in statement. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Just weeks before his death, he performed during Black Sabbath’s final show. The show had 42,000 fans attend, with more than five million more streaming the epic event via VOD. Billboard reported the Back to the Beginning show was the highest-grossing charity concert of all time, donating roughly $190 million to a variety of charities, including Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorn Children’s Hospice and Cure Parkinson’s. Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019.
Ozzy Osbourne’s net worth was reportedly worth around $220 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth at the time of his death.
In his life, Osbourne sold more than 100 million records worldwide in total as both a solo artist and during his time in Black Sabbath. The artist was inducted into the U.K. Music Hall of Fame as both a solo artist and for his work in the band.
The whole Osbourne family catapulted into a household name when they starred in the reality TV show The Osbournes. The family was reportedly taking home $5,000 per episode when the show started. But, each family member was said to be receiving $5 million for their time on the series.
On an appearance on The Talk in 2020, Sharon Osbourne revealed what her family plans to do with her husband’s estate after he passes. “Everybody is different,” the TV personality said. “And I just know that my husband’s body of work, that he’s written, and kept us all in the lifestyle that we love, goes to my children.” Osbourne was father to Kelly, Aimee, Jack, Jessica, Louis, and Elliot Kingsley.
“I don’t want someone that never met my husband owning his name and likeness and selling T-shirts everywhere and whatever. No, it stays in the Osbourne family.”
