Matty Healy Feared Taylor Swift Would 'Rip Him Apart' as a 'Villain' on Her New Album

Denise Welch has some thoughts about Taylor Swift. The British actress finally broke her silence about her son Matty Healy’s relationship with the “Lover” singer.

In an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, the Bravo host asked the Waterloo Actress about the album The Tortured Poets Department and The 1975 singer’s involvement with Swift. “Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost,” she said with some audible gasps from the audience. “Not that I have anything against her at all,” she went on. “It was just — it was tricky.”

“She — listen, you’re not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it,” the acterss later confessed. “He is very happy with his amazing fiancée Gabriella, who is gorgeous,” she continued, referring to the model Gabbriette whom he became engaged to in June 2024. “So, we’ve moved on,” Welch added.

The “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)” songwriter is rumored to be the subject of many songs on The Tortured Poets Department like ” I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” and “But Daddy I Love Him.” When asked what he thought about Swift’s “diss tracks” towards him he replied, “I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”

Taylor Swift quickly moved on to Travis Kelce right after her fling with The 1975 frontman, when the NFL player wanted to ask for her number via a friendship bracelet. After completing the Eras Tour and Travis’ Super Bowl loss, the two have been laying it low as the NFL star is gearing up for what may be his final season in the NFL. But the night of Welch’s comment, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end posted an Instagram carousel offering a rare insight into his relationship with Swift. “Had some adventures this offseason, kept it 💯,” he wrote in the caption.

Welch’s comments also come weeks after The 1975’s headlining set at Glastonbury on June 27. “What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best,” Taylor Swift’s ex Matty Healy said on the Pyramid Stage. “I’m probably the best songwriter of my generation. The best, what do we say… A poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am.”

Many Swifties took it as a jab when he said the word ”poet,” which might be a reference to her latest album. “I just want to remind you [for] the next couple of minutes—these lyrics, this poetry I bleed for you,” he said before the band launched into their smash hit “Chocolate,” where indecipherable lyrics popped up on the screen. Healy is known for his sardonic comments on stage by his fans, so this came as no surprise to them.
