Kate Middleton‘s parents have always been super supportive of their daughter. Now that William’s closer to the throne, Carole and Michael Middleton might be getting a special perk.
While royal titles for the monarch’s spouse’s parents aren’t usually a thing in the royal family, The Daily Mail argued that Carole and Michael should take on the title of Earl and Countess of Bucklebury, where the family lives. The gossip site also noted that “the only other non-titled grandpa in the past millennium, the father of Edward IV’s wife Elizabeth, also had an earldom bestowed on him.” The site also said recently that the act would be more likely when William becomes King. However, royal experts say that they’re unlikely to get royal titles in their future because they are reserved for those who are born or marry into the royal family.
It would be likely that Kate would make her mother and her sister Pippa her companions, also known as Ladies-in-Waiting. Queen Consort Camilla has made six people close to her ladies-in-waiting that she calls “companions.” When Kate becomes Queen Consort, it’s likely that she will do the same. Another option is that her parents will be given a Dame/Sir title. One of Camilla’s Lady-in-Waiting, Sarah Troughton was given a Royal Victorian Order in 2025 for service to the monarch.
Katie Nicholl, the royal correspondent for Vanity Fair, said on The Sun‘s “Royal Exclusive” that Carole and Michael have been such a great additions to the family. “The Middletons have been very, very welcomed into the royal fold.” She continued, “They have a very close relationship, and they had a lovely relationship with the late Queen.”
When Kate was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer, she helped out her daughter in private. “Carole has always been a rock for Kate, especially this past year — she’s been amazing,” royal expert and author Ingrid Seward, told HELLO! “I have met her a couple of times and the word that keeps coming back to me is ‘strength.’ I imagine her as a sort of pioneer woman driving a wagon with a rifle at her feet, and three children in the back, fighting off any enemy. Basically, that’s what she’s been doing all her life, isn’t it?”
Carole is also close to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. “I want to run down the hills, climb the trees and go through the tunnel at the playground,” she told Good Housekeeping. “As long as I am able to, that’s what I’ll be doing. I cook with them, I muck around dancing, we go on bike rides.”
