Brad Pitt has been at the center of a lot of controversy lately. Or at the very least, at the center of a lot of conversations that have brought back up older controversies. A lot of it has to do with his contentious divorce from ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, amid allegations of abuse. There’s also his estrangement from his kids, who have all mostly cut contact with him.
Now, Pitt is dealing with more tragic news, as his mother Jane has just passed away. TMZ was first to report the news. “My sweet Grammy,” his niece Sydney Pitt wrote on Instagram, “we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier.”

The post also read, “If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked.” No details about Jane Pitt’s death have yet been released.
Pitt very recently mentioned his mom during a special screening of his latest film F1 in June. At the time Pitt told Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie that his mom watched the show on a daily basis.
“I gotta say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning,” he said. “To Jane Pitt. Love you, Mom,” the actor added, waving and blowing a kiss to the camera. Jane Pitt mostly stayed away from the spotlight, but in a 2018 video for WorldServe International, she talked about her pride for her children’s philanthropic work. “I’m very proud of all my children. They see a need and try to step in and fill it,” she said at the time. “… It’s an amazing thing.”

These devastating news for Pitt come as US Weekly recently reported the actor’s estrangement from his kids has been very hard for him. Pitt has reportedly “made several efforts to reconnect with his kids.” The magazine also added that he sees his youngest kids, twins, “periodically,” however, “but the rest of the relationships are strained. It’s caused him a lot of heartbreak.”
Recent reports indicated Pitt had reached out to former father-in-law Jon Voight to attempt to get back in his kid’s good graces. RadarOnline reported that Pitt is “grasping at straws at this point, and he’s asking Jon to step in to make peace – or at least give their fractured situation a little stability.”
And though Voight is reportedly amenable, there are no guarantees. “He’s willing to reach out to Angie for Brad, but really isn’t expecting his hopes up,” the source explained. “And at the end of the day, it’s up to the kids if they want to reconcile with their dad and reestablish that trust and warmth again.”
The outlet also reported that Pitt still has legal visitation of the kids, though the source added, “what use is that if none of the kids want to see him.” The source also explicitly said that sons Pax, Maddox and daughter Zahara “just hate his guts.”
It doesn’t seem like there’s any quick fix there, even with the devastating news of the loss of one family member.
