Jennifer Aniston is getting real about the aftermath of her relationship with Brad Pitt. The Morning Show actress revealed what she thought about the media’s portrayal of a “love triangle” between her, her ex-husband, and Angelina Jolie.
“It was such juicy reading for people,” she recalled about the media frenzy in 2005 in a Vanity Fair profile published August 11. “If they didn’t have their soap operas, they had their tabloids.”
“It’s a shame that it had to happen, but it happened,” she added. “And boy did I take it personally.” She also revealed what advice she would tell herself who was in the middle of all the drama: “Just pick yourself up by the bootstraps and keep on walking, girl.”
The Friends star and the Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood star married in 2000 after two years of dating and finalized their divorce in October 2005.
“We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate,” Aniston and Pitt said in a statement at the time. “For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration. We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another.”
Shortly after their divorce, Pitt moved on with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie, which spurred media attention and rumors of an affair. Meanwhile, Aniston ended up marrying actor Justin Theroux in 2015. Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on September 19, 2016, while Jennifer and Justin announced their split in 2018.
The exes remain on amicable terms. An insider told Entertainment Tonight on May 17, 2022. “Brad and Jen are still friends. They talk and have a nice, friendly, cordial relationship.” However, the source confirmed they “aren’t getting back together, but they have a lot of respect for each other.” In early 2025, Aniston was a victim of a stalker, and Pitt offered her a place to stay alongside his girlfriend Ines de Ramon. A source revealed to RadarOnline: “Brad told her, ‘If you need a place to feel secure, my doors are always open.’”
Aniston even keeps up with Pitt’s other exes like Gwyneth Paltrow. “Ironically, I went to her and Brad’s engagement party,” she recalled to Vanity Fair. And in response to the question if the actresses “ever talk” about their relationship with the F1 actor, Aniston quipped, “Oh, of course. How can we not? We’re girls.”
