If we thought things between Prince William and Prince Harry were bad, then they are pale in comparison to the current status of the relationship between the heir and his uncle, Prince Andrew. And though Andrew has been pretty much absent from public life for a while and does not represent the royal family anymore, the fact is that King Charles has not completely banished him from the family. But rumors indicate that Prince William will not hesitate. And no, it’s not just because of his numerous scandals.

According to a new biography on Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, titled Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by royal author Andrew Lownie, Prince Andrew has been estranged from both Prince William and Prince Harry for years. Part of the issue? Certain remarks Prince Andrew made about Kate Middleton were described as “rude” and “unkind.” Can’t exactly blame Prince William for reacting as he has, considering this.

“I can’t see how anyone could make unkind comments about Kate when she’s been the family’s saving grace,” Lownie told Radar Online. “It surprised me, but people do get jealous,” he added, adding that jealousy did indeed play a part. “I’d have thought Prince Andrew would respect William as future king though” rather than being “nasty about his wife.”

Reportedly, William had issues with his uncle even before that, but this might have been the breaking point. “William has a very strong sense of public duty and is doing his best to keep the show on the road,” Lownie said. “He’s all about doing things the right way and has enough on his plate without having to think about his uncle.”

What Did Prince Andrew Say About Kate Middleton Before William Feud?

Recent reports by The Telegraph indicate that William knows “something still needs to be done” with Andrew, and already has a plan in place for when he becomes King. The plan reportedly includes banning him from his coronation, removing his Order of the Garter, and stripping him of his “Prince” title.

Royal biographer Christopher Wilson told the publication, “I think to a large extent Charles has adhered to that as a safe policy—the moment you start tearing the family apart, where does it stop? With William, it will be a different approach—he has hard-nosed ideas about how the Royal family needs to appear in the frenzied social media world we now inhabit, and I think will be ruthless.”

Stripping Prince Andrew of his title, however, won’t be easy. “If there was a serious move to take [a title] away, particularly at that level, you do it through both houses [of Parliament],” an insider said. Another source added, “Is it likely at this point? No. But is it possible? Yes.”

There have also been conversations about the possibility that Prince William would make the same decision with regard to his brother, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle. But from all recent reports, it seems that whatever issues William might have with his brother, his issues with his uncle, Prince Andrew, are much larger. So we should expect him to start there.
