Brandon Blackstock’s family and friends came together to celebrate his life after Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband passed away from melanoma on August 7. Blackston and Clarkson shared two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9.

“Brandon’s closest friends and family gathered over the weekend for a few days to celebrate his life in the place he loved most. It was very private,” a source told Us Weekly. “His partner, Brittney [Marie Jones], his family, and his closest friends spent time at his home sharing memories of Brandon and remembering how much he meant to them.”

“It was sad and there were tears, but there were also a lot of laughs remembering Brandon’s pranks and sense of humor.” The insider added. “It was special for everyone to spend time in Montana walking and hiking the roads Brandon loved so much, and to gather at his home to remember him.”

There were no reports of Clarkson attending the memorial for Blackstock. Among those who did attend was Shane Tarleton, who posted a since-expired Instagram Story, a photo of people sitting around a fire pit at night. “@brandonblackstock would’ve loved this night so much,” Tarleton wrote over the image. “So many of his fav people in his backyard around a campfire at sunset.”

Nashville hairstylist Amanda Craig, meanwhile, similarly shared a photo of herself and her husband smiling with green hills in the background on Instagram Stories. “We understand why you loved it here so much,” she wrote, “Celebrating your wonderful life over the weekend was a true gift. We love you BB!”

Blackstock’s obituary confirmed he was in a new relationship at the time of his death. “Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana.”

According to Page Six, Brittney Marie Jones was an assistant to Kelly Clarkson from December 2016 to December 2018 and an assistant to Blackstone during that same time. She stopped being an assistant to both in 2020, which is when Clarkson filed for divorce.

The obituary very much did not mention Clarkson, but did mention the children the two shared, alongside Blackstock’s other children, saying, “But never did his star shine brighter than in his role as a father. Nothing mattered to Brandon more than his four beautiful children, Savannah, Seth, River, and Remy. To say he was devoted seems cliché. It feels like an overused word, but it is the correct word. He was a devoted father. His four children were and will always be his greatest love and his greatest legacy.”

Clarkson and Blackstock had a very contentious divorce, which included a legal battle over their Montana ranch and Clarkson suing Blackstock, claiming unlawfully procured business deals for her as her talent manager. However, a source told People that Kelly Clarkson was supportive during her ex’s private battle with cancer. “When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the source revealed. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”

She might not have been present at the funeral, but Clarkson has been putting her kids first, and that includes postponing her Vegas residency, and recent announcements that Jennifer Hudson is set to step in for her on The Voice as Clarkson spends time with her kids during their grief.
