There’s absolutely no one who can argue that Princess Diana wasn’t a pivotal figure in both Prince William and Prince Harry’s lives. In fact, it’s hard to imagine that the brothers would be as estranged as they are now if their mother were still alive. The two have gone out of their way to keep Princess Diana’s memory alive, in their own way. And now, there are reports they’re both looking to do something else to honor her.
A new report by The Daily Beast indicates Prince William and Prince Harry could end up making rival documentaries about Princess Diana to mark the 30th anniversary of her death. Reportedly, reps for Prince Harry’s Archewell production company are already in talks about a documentary and with a source claimed to the publication, William will feel compelled to respond with his own contribution of Harry goes ahead.

One senior executive at an independent production house in the U.K. told The Daily Beast: “Harry is looking to do a series about Diana in 2027. They want to get the right partners, and we have had a conversation with them. I’m sure other production companies have too. An inside account of the implosion of Charles and Diana’s marriage and Harry’s story of Diana’s death and its aftermath would be the TV sensation of all time.”
A friend of William also told the outlet, “The film the brothers made for the 20th anniversary was meant to be the last word. William made that very clear at the time. But of course things have changed since then. If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show effectively claiming her legacy, William will have to fight back, whether that’s with an interview or a documentary of his own. The whole situation is just very sad.”
According to the outlet, insiders have said the possibility of a Diana project was a big draw for Netflix when it came time to sign a new contract with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
This all comes after reports indicated things weren’t going all that well financially for Prince Harry since leaving the British royal family, with some reports indicating they’d had to let go of several of their staff. “This isn’t strategy — it’s survival,” one source told celebrity gossiper Rob Shuter. “They’re running out of money, and now they’re running out of people.” Reportedly, the turnover has to do with the way the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have structured their household. “They don’t have the money to keep the team they built,” the source said. “They tried to recreate the royal court — but California doesn’t do crowns on credit.”
Prince Harry, in particular, has recently gone out of his way to pay tribute to his mother. This includes making a point to continue her humanitarian work in places like Angola. The Duke of Sussex recently set out on a tour of Angola to recreate the walk that Princess Diana took across a minefield there in 1997. This is not the first time Harry has done this same walk, as he previously did it in 2019 and 2024.
Whether we soon get one or two Princess Diana documentaries that showcase this side of her—and perhaps others is something we will have to wait and see. The public probably won’t complain, though.
