Travis Kelce’s Mom May Have Leaked His Engagement to Taylor Swift Before Their Announcement—Here’s When He Proposed

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged, but when did he pop the question? Well, it may have been more recent than fans expected.
Taylor and Travis, who started dating in July 2023 after her breakup with her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, announced their engagement after two years of dating on August 26, 2025. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” Taylor captioned a joint Instagram post from her and Travis’ engagement.

The post, which Travis collaborated on, included several photos of them in a garden as Travis got down on one knee and proposed to Taylor.
When did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce get engaged?
A source told Page Six that Travis proposed to Taylor a “couple weeks” before they announced their engagement, though the exact date of the proposal hasn’t been confirmed. That means that Travis and Taylor likely got engaged mid-August, around the time of her interview on his and Jason Kelce’s podcast, “New Heights,” and her 12th album announcement for The Life of a Showgirl.
Fans also speculated that Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce, hinted at his engagement to Taylor in an interview with People at the red carpet for the premiere of The Kingdom on August 24.
“I think his mind is settled. That’s about all I can tell you,” Donna said when asked what was making Travis “so happy” at the time. “I think he feels calm and he feels like he’s on a mission and he knows exactly what he wants.”
Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, also shared a similar answer in an interview with People on the red carpet. “Taylor,” Ed said. “There’s no question about it.”
A source told Life & Style Magazine in April 2024 that Travis was ready to propose to Taylor even after less than a year of dating. “Travis is eager to speed up their relationship timeline. He wants to marry Taylor right away and start a family as soon as she’s ready. Travis has been so broody that he’s told Taylor he’s open to having kids before a wedding!” the insider said.
The source continued that Travis’ “fatherly instincts kick in whenever he spends time” with Jason’s daughters—Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and Finnley—and many people in his inner circle believe that he “is going to be an amazing dad.” The insider also added at the time Taylor “knows starting a family is huge for Travis” and the desire is “one of the things she loves about him.”
“Taylor and Travis have definitely talked about how cute their babies would be,” the source continued. “They’re still not officially engaged, but they both have babies on the brain.”
