Prince William and Kate Middleton are moving from their home of three years, Adelaide Cottage, to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park. And moving always carries with it a whole host of issues. There’s making the place ready for you and your family, and making sure it’s up to your standards. And then, of course, there are other people’s opinions of your new home. That’s magnified when you are the Prince and Princess of Wales. But William and Kate seem quite determined to make Forest Lodge their home, even if that comes at a lofty price.
How much will the two be paying for rent? Reportedly, the number is quite high. The place was advertised back in 2001 for £15,000 per month, as reported in Hello! magazine. But that was over 20 years ago, and inflation is a thing. So, how much would it be now? Property expert Russell Quirk told the Manchester Evening News the answer is likely at least twice.

“In the last 20 or so years, these things vary region to region, town to town, but suffice to say the likes of Windsor have become ever more popular, particularly with overseas renters.”
“So the rental market in terms of demand is very, very strong. As a consequence of that, that property has probably doubled in terms of its rent value, so £15,000 a month back in 2001 is now probably £30,000 a month, about £7,000 a week. It’s not insubstantial – lots and lots and lots of demand.”
The new home, royal biographer and Majesty Magazine editor-in-chief, Ingrid Seward, told Hello!: “It is a really beautiful Georgian house, in a secluded spot, so it will suit them perfectly.
“Adelaide Cottage was only ever going to be temporary, because it’s too small, but William doesn’t want to live in a huge palace. He has always made quite clear that this isn’t the way he wants to live his life.”
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner agreed, telling Fox News Digital, “Some royal skeptics are saying that it is not grand enough for a future king,” said Turner, but adding that. “William and Kate may already be setting the precedent for the future monarch living a much humbler existence.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales, alongside their kids, are reportedly looking at the move as a chance at a new beginning for their family after what has been a complicated year for them. “Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind. This is a move for the long term. They see it as their forever home,” a source told NBC News.
Forest Lodge is reportedly being renovated according to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s specifications, with new shrubs being planted and a metal fence with black mesh privacy screens being placed around the front of the home to ensure privacy for their family. The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be paying for the renovations themselves.
So yes, it’s an investment for the couple, but it seems like they believe it’ll be the last one they have to make.
