Not everyone’s happy about the engagement news that has taken the internet by storm. The only one of Taylor Swift’s exes to comment on her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce publicly might have seemed over the moon about it, but when it comes to Travis Kelce’s exes, the reaction doesn’t seem to be the same. Or, at the very least, Kayla Nicole would like to be excluded from the narrative.
After the news about Kelce’s engagement to Swift broke, Nicole, who is an on-air reporter, reposted a video to her Instagram Stories featuring actress Tracee Ellis Ross discussing choosing “joy.”

“I think joy is different from happiness,” Ross says in the video. “Happiness is something you can get at 7-Eleven, and joy is something that you earn and work for and takes practice,” the actress explains. “I think joy is an attitude. I think joy is a perspective and I think joy is a lens through which I live and look at my life.”
“Read about this very concept years ago in a book called ‘Choose Joy: Because Happiness Isn’t Enough’. I aspire! So so good,” Nicole added.
Nicole and Kelce were a thing on and off for five years and broke up in 2022, about a year before Kelce and Swift started dating. And though that’s a significant amount of time, since Nicole was Kelce’s last serious relationship before Swift, people are as interested in her as they are in Joe Alwyn on Swift’s side. It is what it is.
Though she hasn’t truly opened up about the split, she did once post a now-deleted TikTok that said, “You’re not stupid Kayla. No, I am actually. Thought I’d get wifed after dating for 5 year. That’s 1,825 days.” Ouch.
She’s also hinted at experienced cheating in past relationships, though she never explicitly called out Kelce by name. During an episode of The Pre-Game With Kayla Nicole back in May, she said, “You watch the Disney movies, you grow up in church. I was raised to believe that a man and woman, if they are in a relationship, if they are married, you are only intended to be with each other, and you make this agreement, this promise to one another to hold each other accountable.’
“Have I experienced that in dating and relationships in my life? No. When you are cheated on, the heartbreak and devastation that come with that. The insecurities that come with that. It can be overwhelming. In my experience, I don’t have successful, monogamous relationships without any element of cheating.”
Swift and Kelce recently got engaged after two years of dating and announced the news on August 26 with a joint Instagram post. According to Page Six, though, the proposal happened a “couple weeks” before the two finally made it public. Not that we’re counting, but that would put Travis and Taylor likely getting engaged mid-August, around the time Swift made a pretty surprising appearance on the New Heights podcast Travis hosts with his brother Jason, and also announced a new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Kayla Nicole will probably be skipping that, too.
