Sometimes you have a good sense of how your life is going to turn out. Or, you have enough self-awareness to know that some decisions you make are probably going to turn out one way instead of the other. Or maybe you just get lucky. But most of us have at least one instance where we can look at our younger selves and go, “See, I was right about that.” So does Taylor Swift.
In fact, just hours before news of Swift’s engagement to NFL superstar Travis Kelce broke, fans had dug up an old interview of Swift where she seemed to eerily predict her future. “My music is where I’m always gonna be personal. I don’t hold anything back in that category,” a very young Swift said in the clip. But that’s not all.

“So we’re not gonna find out until you’re married, and your mom’s here, so Mom? Not allowed to get married until she’s 35?” the interviewer joked. But that Swift didn’t take it as a joke, instead agreeing. “No, it’s gonna be late. Late in life.”
Taylor Swift is 35 years old. And though she probably won’t be getting married while she’s still 35, it’s still a pretty fun coincidence if you look back on it.
And it seems like Swift was counting the days this time, though it likely wasn’t because she remembered what she’d once said. Sometimes, you just have a feeling, particularly when you’re in a relationship you feel secure about.
“He was going to put it off till this week,” Ed Kelce, Travis’s dad, told Cleveland’s ABC News 5. “I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.”
His advice, however, was not to do that. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you,” he added.
According to Travis Kelce’s dad, this has been in the works for months. “We actually went to a thing in [Kansas City] Sunday night, which was an ESPN airing of ‘The Kingdom’ and … his mother and I went with him back to his house for dinner, where Taylor made dinner, and we had a wonderful dinner with them outside on the patio and to just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other, it’s truly kinda neat,” Ed shared with the outlet.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift and Kelce captioned their joint announcement on Instagram, alongside a lit dynamite emoji. And though we don’t know when exactly the proposal took place, according to dad, it was “maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago” at a garden at Travis’ home. So, if you were getting particular vibes from that New Heights podcast episode featuring Taylor Swift alongside the Kelce brothers, you were probably on the right track. If you’ll recall, Swift also announced a new album, The Life of a Showgirl, during that podcast.
Nothing to get antsy about now.
