There are two very clear stages to a cancer diagnosis. There’s the actual moment of diagnosis and the ups and downs that come with fighting the disease, and there’s the moment after you’ve gone into remission. The second stage is, clearly, much better for all patients. But it’s not without its challenges. Cancer is very hard on the body, and even after recovery, patients usually have to adjust their lives to make sure they are getting the proper rest and balancing their time correctly. This is as true for Kate Middleton as it is for anyone else.
Middleton has resumed public duties since announcing she was in remission, but her schedule has been much lighter this summer. The Princess of Wales has also been candid about the struggles she’s had after her cancer. In fact, she opened up about her recovery with patients and staff members of the NHS in June 2025. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she explained. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

This is in line with what sources have told Us Weekly, which is that the Princess is rethinking her priorities. “Kate’s outlook has changed, and her priorities have shifted,” the source explained. “[She’s] emphasizing her family and her well-being over [intense] duties.” This is reportedly something she and Prince William have decided on together. “While they take their responsibilities very seriously, they are not afraid to say no when necessary.”
Middleton reportedly puts her doctors above her advisors. “Kate listens to her advisers, but ultimately it’s up to her doctors. They guide her decisions,” the source also shared. Royal expert Marlene Koenig also told the publication: “The Princess of Wales knows finding the right balance is the norm for a recovering patient. She may be in remission, but it takes time to return to what life was like before.”
It’s pretty much the same thing Middleton herself had said in that conversation with NHS patients and staff in June. “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she explained then. “You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be,” the Princess explained, “But the reality is you go through hard times.”
All of this comes after recent reports by RadarOnline that “Behind closed doors, she’s still struggling emotionally and tires a lot more easily; it’s taking longer to readjust to royal life after her cancer treatment.”
“She’s still not back to where she was before her diagnosis, and she’s not sure she ever will be, which is why she’s told William she needs a decent break before term starts in September. She’s unofficially stepped back from royal duties this summer – and of course, William is wholly supportive,” the source explained.
These are not the only troubling reports about Middleton’s health to surface in the past few weeks. RadarOnline.com also reported that there have been concerns about Middleton’s weight. “Kate is painfully thin, and people are worried it’s a sign that she is struggling with her recovery from cancer treatment,” a royal insider told the outlet.
All these things considered, it’s probably good that she’s taking things slow. If that continues, though, it might be time to truly worry.
