Orlando Bloom Says He Was a ‘Horrible Person to be Around’ Before His Breakup With Katy Perry
One of Orlando Bloom‘s roles took a toll on his body. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor opened up about his weight transformation for the film The Cut, where he lost 52 pounds.
Bloom opened up on the Aug. 27 episode of the This Morning podcast, saying that his diet was extremely limited while preparing for the movie where he plays an unnamed retired boxer. “I was just exhausted,” he said, noting that he had “no energy or brain power. Just mentally, physically, I was hangry,” he continued. “I was a horrible person to be around.”
“Suddenly, all these foods were being taken away from me, and my protein powder was the last one,” he added. “I was like, ‘No! Don’t take that one.’ Then basically I came down to [eating] just tuna and cucumber for the last three weeks.”
Because of the extremes of the diet, he would regularly get his health checked. “We’re supposed to eat and sleep and take care of ourselves,” he continued. “It’s really a commentary on the lengths a person will go to have that second shot. I think that’s so relatable.”
He explained that the lack of food affected his mental health, leading to “paranoia” and “intrusive thoughts.” The actor doesn’t “recommend” it to “anyone at home.” Filming for the movie took place in the summer of 2023.
The interview comes weeks after Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s breakup. Perry and Bloom split after nine years together in June 2025. They share one child, four-year-old Daisy Dove Bloom. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter [Daisy Dove] with love, stability and mutual respect,” a statement from their rep said.
The “ET” singer reportedly went on a couple of dates with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. OK! UK reportedly recently reported that Perry felt “humiliated” after Bloom threw shade at her romance with Justin Trudeau by responding to an Onion article claiming there was now something going on between him and Angela Merkel with clapping emojis.
“Katy feels very let down and humiliated by Orlando, but she’s also realising that he wasn’t the right person for her. He’s showing his true colours and it’s really very hurtful and spiteful to her, especially as it probably means the end of any possible friendship with him in future,” the insider said. “She hoped they’d both be mature after the break-up so she’s feeling really disappointed.”
On Perry & Trudeau’s end, they’re still keeping it very slow after all the media attention. “Justin and Katy are for sure attracted to each other on several levels and had a wonderful time together in Canada,” a source told People, adding, “They discovered how they agree on many things and really enjoyed their encounter in Canada for as short a time as it was.”
“As long as [media coverage] goes his way, then he’s fine,” the source says of his attitude toward publicity, but as for the attention surrounding him and Perry, “he would prefer it more low-key.”
