Prince Andrew has been at the center of many controversies over the course of his life. But perhaps nothing has been as big—or serious—as the one surrounding his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. With Epstein’s victims now speaking freely and a renewed push for accountability from those on Epstein’s list, there has been even more scrutiny on the disgraced prince as of late. And it seems like he won’t be able to escape the heat, no matter how much his brother might wish to protect him.
US Representative Nancy Mace, in particular, is calling for Andrew to be arrested. Just a few days ago, Mace stormed out of a House Oversight Committee closed-door meeting with Epstein victims, visibly upset. Later, she posted on X, “Now seems like a good time to discuss prosecuting Prince Andrew for any and all potential crimes on US soil,” But that wasn’t all; she also added, “A cold dark cell. Prince Andrew in handcuffs. Sends the right message.”

There have been growing calls for the Duke of York to face accountability ever since his infamous BBC Newsnight interview detailed his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The interview, which came to be because the prince was facing mounting scrutiny due to his alleged relationship with Epstein, was supposed to be a way to save his public image. Instead, the interview was a PR nightmare that forced Andrew to step back from his public royal duties.
But it would get worse. In 2022, he was stripped of his military titles after a judge ruled a sexual abuse civil lawsuit against him could proceed. The suit was later settled. “With The Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen. The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen,” the palace said at the time.
Recently, there have been questions about where the royal family stands on Andrew. Considering he was recently invited to Balmoral for the royal family’s annual holiday break, it’s safe to say King Charles is still supporting his brother. But he might just be the only one, and things could change radically for the Prince once his nephew, William, is king.
According to Rob Shuter, Prince William has cut off “all contact” with his uncle. William reportedly “doesn’t want” Andrew “anywhere near his children.” The Telegraph also recently reported that William knows “something still needs to be done” with Prince Andrew, and will take extreme measures when it’s his time to make the decisions. Those measures reportedly include banning him from his coronation, removing his Order of the Garter, and stripping him of his “Prince” title.
Royal biographer Christopher Wilson told the publication, “I think to a large extent Charles has adhered to that as a safe policy—the moment you start tearing the family apart, where does it stop? With William, it will be a different approach—he has hard-nosed ideas about how the Royal family needs to appear in the frenzied social media world we now inhabit, and I think will be ruthless.”
Jail might not be a sure thing for Andrew, but it doesn’t seem like his family will really defend him if the consequences of his actions finally catch up with him.
