Prince William and Prince Harry‘s current relationship may have reached a point of no return, but one particular heartfelt moment from their past has been making the rounds again.
In royal biographer Christopher Anderson’s new book Brothers and Wives , he recounts Prince Harry’s best man speech that moved Kate Middleton to tears. The Duke of Sussex called his brother and his new wife “the dude and the duchess.” He also apologized to Kate “for having to marry a bald man,” gave impressions of his brother, and revealed that William called Kate a special nickname, Babykins.
Even amid all the laughter and hijinks, Harry managed to put some emotional rhetoric in his speech. “There were muffled sobs when Harry told his brother, ‘Our mother would be so very proud of you,’ and sighs when he said he loved Kate like a sister,” Andersen wrote. When Harry confessed that the newlyweds’ romance was inspiring to him in his own dating life, Kate reportedly cried.

A guest of the wedding reportedly told the DailyMail at the time, “Harry said William was the perfect brother,” the attendee said.”It was exactly how you would expect a best man’s speech to be. He cracked loads of jokes about William. He called him a ‘dude’ several times. He kept coming back to it, saying ‘What a dude.'”
The sentiment was exchanged at Harry’s own nuptials to Meghan Markle, where William was the best man and gave a “naughty” speech (via the DailyMail).
Nearly 15 years after their wedding, William and Harry’s relationship isn’t what it used to be, and the tension between them is affecting the Duke of Sussex’s upcoming reunion with King Charles. The Daily Beast reported that William doesn’t believe Harry should be welcomed back with open arms. However, the outlet also said William will defer to his father’s opinion, even if he doesn’t agree. “Ultimately, William is a loyal soldier. He respects his father’s rank, and he respects his father’s right to make his own decisions, and he won’t make a fuss if it happens,” they said. “But he thinks a Harry meeting is a terrible, terrible idea.”
