Prince Harry and King Charles are reportedly reconciling, or at least moving closer to it. There are reports that the two are set to meet now that Harry is in the UK for the WellChild Awards. However, the prince, who traveled to the UK without his wife or children amid security concerns, isn’t yet fully back in the royal orbit as his brother. And there are no reports about Meghan Markle possibly taking the same step as Harry did.

But why is that? Well, it’s been widely reported that Harry has fought the removal of his taxpayer-funded security due to concerns about the welfare of his wife and kids. Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet have therefore not accompanied him the last few times he’s returned to the UK. However, some are hopeful that a reconciliation between father and son might change that.

However, just one meeting is unlikely to change everything. Royal biographer Tom Bower told the Express that the meeting is “full of peril,” explaining. “Harry has a huge mountain to overcome,” adding that “On a human basis, he used to get on very well with Charles, so particularly from Harry’s perspective, he needs reconciliation. But time is not on their side.”

This is particularly true because Harry’s case for security was essentially about his father, Bower added. “The fear with the court case was that Harry could invent something the King said about the case – and it would cause a constitutional crisis,” he claimed. “That fear has prevented any meeting until now, but even now the case is over, the fear still remains.”

Former Royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared with OK! that since the meeting is reportedly going forward, this also presents a concern for Markle, who felt “unsettled and unhappy in her royal life,” which would obviously make any type of return complicated. “It would be natural for her to feel somewhat threatened by her husband being drawn back into the royal circle,” Bond shared. “So, I think she would have conflicting emotions about Harry meeting his father, if this is indeed on the cards.”

All of this aside, there are reports that Prince Harry is still very much interested in his family coming back to the UK, even if it’s not fully time, so that feels like something he and his wife would have discussed and be on the same page about.

“He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the UK,” a friend of Harry shared with the Sunday Times. “He wants to be able to show his children where he grew up. He wants them to know their family here. He really would like to come back to the UK much more.”

The Duke of Sussex has expressed his desire to bring his family to his home country as recently as this May, in an interview with the BBC. “I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point. And the things they’re going to miss, well, everything … I miss the UK,” he said in May.

Recently, there had even been rumors that Harry is “quite keen” for his children to experience British schooling. Grant Harrold, former royal butler to King Charles, said per Hello! “It’s very likely and completely possible.” But that would, of course, depend on that possible reconciliation.

“If they have their younger education in America, I’m sure their father will be quite keen to have a bit of a British education,” he added. “But then it depends on how the relationship is with the rest of the family when the time comes,” Harrold said.

So basically, no meeting yet for Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, or Princess Lilibet with the rest of the family. But it’s not out of the question at some point in the future.
