Prince Harry’s recent visit to the UK was supposed to be a chance for reconciliation for the royal family. He’s set to meet with his father, King Charles, a meeting that could open a door for the rest of the family. And though reports indicated Prince William wasn’t exactly on board, a good meeting with King Charles could certainly change things. At least, that was the thinking.

Now, however, depending on how a comment by Harry is received, things might be even worse with Prince William. According to Hello! Magazine, Harry made a reference to his relationship with his brother during a reception before the 2025 WellChild Awards in London on Monday, Sept. 8.

It all happened during a conversation with one of the WellChild Award winners, Declan Bitmead. “I’ve got a younger brother,” Bitmead, who is 17, reportedly told Harry after an inquiry about his family. “Does he drive you mad?” Prince Harry then asked, to which Bitmead’s response seems to have been no.

“You know what, siblings,” the Duke of Sussex reportedly joked.

Later in the conversation, Prince Harry also reportedly said, “That sometimes makes it more challenging,” in response to Bitmead sharing that he and his brother attend the same school. Neither of these things is, in and of itself, bad. These are the kind of jokes everyone with siblings makes. Complaining about having a sibling is part of the joy of having a sibling.

This all comes amid reports that King Charles’ desire to repair his relationship with Prince Harry has affected his relationship with Prince William. The Daily Beast quoted an insider as saying that their relationship is “tense, difficult, formal, and fraught,” and that “the vast majority of their communication is mediated by their private secretaries.” However, other reports indicate William and Charles’ issues go deeper, and instead have to do with how each of them perceives the monarchy.

Reports indicate Prince William is also not convinced the Prince Harry reconciliation is a great idea. The Mirror even reported, “As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand.” However, according to The Daily Beast, whatever happens, he will reportedly fall in line. “Ultimately, William is a loyal soldier. He respects his father’s rank, and he respects his father’s right to make his own decisions, and he won’t make a fuss if it happens,” the insider said. “But he thinks a Harry meeting is a terrible, terrible idea.”

King Charles’ former personal butler, Grant Harrold, even told The Post, “William is worried that with the stuff Harry has said, he could use it to his advantage again … like he’s already done. I think, sadly, they don’t trust him. It’s a shame, because Harry wants them to.”

Whether King Charles and Prince Harry can fix their issues is one thing. Whether Prince Harry and Prince William ever can reconcile feels like a very different matter.
