Prince Harry’s recent UK visit came at a very emotional time. The WellChild Awards, the reason for the visit to Harry’s home country, just so happened to coincide with the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. So, there was speculation that Harry would find a way to pay tribute to his grandmother while he was still in the UK. And that’s exactly what happened.

Harry visited the late monarch’s burial site at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, leaving a wreath of flowers there, according to People. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital that the visit was necessary.

“Since he has arrived in Britain on the third anniversary of the Queen’s death, it is only fitting that Harry pays his private respects at her grave at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. However, it will not be forgotten that he and Meghan made Queen Elizabeth’s last years extremely difficult,” he said.

Other possible family reunions are still in a state of flux. “William and Catherine have paid a personal tribute to the Queen today with a visit to the Women’s Institute. It seems certain that William will not be seeing his errant brother during his four-day visit this week. They reportedly have not spoken for about three years,” he said.

The fragile William and Harry relationship was evidenced by reports that King Charles had a hand in helping make sure his son could pay respects to Queen Elizabeth, but that William wouldn’t have approved of it. Rob Shutter’s ShutterScoop alleged that Prince Harry was “quietly granted permission by King Charles” to visit the Queen’s grave, with a source saying, “This was a highly personal gesture. The King wanted to make sure Harry had access.”

“William believes Harry caused his grandmother deep stress. He would never have greenlit this moment,” another source added. In fact, the reports continue to be that the two won’t be reconciling anytime soon. “The brothers are still oceans apart. Even grief can’t bridge that divide.”

If recent reports about King Charles and Prince William’s relationship are to be believed, this could put even more on a strain on the two royals who are the face of the British monarchy. The Daily Beast recently reported their relationship is “tense, difficult, formal, and fraught,” and that “the vast majority of their communication is mediated by their private secretaries.” However, the outlet also said William will respect his father’s decisions, even if he ultimately doesn’t agree with them.

“Ultimately, William is a loyal soldier. He respects his father’s rank, and he respects his father’s right to make his own decisions, and he won’t make a fuss if it happens,” the insider said. “But he thinks a Harry meeting is a terrible, terrible idea.”

Whether the meeting is happening or not, it seems significant that Prince Harry took a very clear step towards reconciliation by visiting his grandmother’s grave, especially if the King really cleared it all up so he could go. It might all be baby steps, but it’s better than no steps.
