Kate Middleton’s hair has been a topic of many discussions over the last few weeks. First, there was speculation she’d dyed it, and questions about what that meant, considering she’d recently gone through chemotherapy. Then, there were reports she was using a blonde wig, a change that felt big. Now, the Princess of Wales, her hair looking her normal brunette instead of the blonde wig she’d sported just a few days ago, proved that she has a few hair tricks up her sleeve.

Middleton was in the middle of a series of royal visits to local mills in London on Thursday, Sept. 11, when she decided to try her hand at screen printing. What happened next will look familiar to people with long hair, who just have to get crafty when they want that hair out of the way. According to People, Middleton proceeded to tie her hair back without a band, pin, or clip. Magic? No, just experience twisting her hair into a bun and tucking the ends underneath.

The internet was in awe. “That is quite impressive. I’ve tried to do that with my hair before when it’s been rather long, but was never able to do it,” one fan said on X, with another one writing, “Looks like this is something she does all the time. And it doesn’t look messy.”

All the focus on Middleton’s hair comes after what was a very hard year for her and a battle for cancer that, for many women, means a loss of hair. In 2024, she was diagnosed with cancer, and she announced she was in remission in January 2025. However, RadarOnline reported that she is still “struggling” both emotionally and physically, something that has been evident from how much Middleton has stepped back from royal duties this summer.

“Behind closed doors, she’s still struggling emotionally and tires a lot more easily; it’s taking longer to readjust to royal life after her cancer treatment,” a palace insider told the outlet. “She’s still not back to where she was before her diagnosis, and she’s not sure she ever will be, which is why she’s told William she needs a decent break before term starts in September. She’s unofficially stepped back from royal duties this summer – and of course, William is wholly supportive,” the source explained.

Just a few months ago, the Princess of Wales discussed the effects of cancer with patients and staff members of the NHS. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she said. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

She continued, “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she explained, sharing “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you, and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

So, all in all, hair questions seem like a favorable thing. At least Middleton is out and looking healthy, as we discuss her hair and whether she can go magic while tying it back.
