It’s like when one thing goes well for the British royal family, there’s always a consequence. King Charles and Prince Harry seem to be on the road to reconciliation, with the two recently meeting for tea during Harry’s latest trip to the UK. However, that is reportedly affecting the relationship between King Charles and Prince William. And not just that, it might be affecting other things.
Charles and Harry’s meeting aside, Prince William wasn’t the only one reportedly opposed to reconciliation. And the other important name who seems to be against Prince Harry is Sir Clive Alderton, Charles’s principal private secretary. According to The Daily Beast, Alderon, nicknamed “the Wasp” by Harry, is in charge of the king’s diary and reportedly shields him from unwelcome encounters.

So, the King’s decision to meet with his youngest son doesn’t just put him in direct opposition to Prince William, but also one of his closest advisors. Awkward, to say the least.
However, there’s reportedly someone in King Charles’ inner circle who is on his side. Sir Simon Rycroft, his newly appointed deputy private secretary, a seasoned diplomat, was reportedly brought in to try to smooth things over. This allegedly occurred because Alderon was anything but conciliatory.
It might seem like a reconciliation, and whatever comes next is a matter of just father and son, but the truth is that when you’re in King Charles’ position, there is a lot that goes into every meeting. Even if that meeting is with your son. And your decisions affect other things. According to The Daily Beast that includes King Charles’ relationship with William, which is now said to be “tense, difficult, formal, and fraught,” with “the vast majority of their communication mediated by their private secretaries.”
Proof that things are not going well was that a former Buckingham Palace staffer said the two “spent no time at all together privately one-on-one when William and Kate were in Balmoral.” Instead, reportedly, King Charles stayed at his “private home” as the rest of his family spent time together.
Like Sir Clive Alderton, Prince William’s issues reportedly stem from not being on board with the Prince Harry reconciliation. Reports indicated that William didn’t think his brother should be given a second chance. However, at the time, there were also reports that William would defer to his father’s opinion. Once the meeting took place, however, the reports were different.
“He had no idea Harry was on the schedule — and certainly wasn’t asked for input,” the source added. That was reportedly planned. “If William had been consulted, he would have tried to block it,” the source added. “That’s why Charles went ahead quietly,” Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop claimed.
Whatever the case might be, there’s clearly at least one contingent in King Charles’ inner circle, which apparently includes Prince William, that would love for this Harry meeting to be a one-and-done. Just as there are others who are pushing for a more diplomatic, peaceful end to the hostilities between Harry and the royal family. We will just have to wait to see who wins.
