It’s the one thing that always perplexes people whenever they watch her movies and shows. What exactly is Miranda Cosgrove‘s ethnicity?

The iCarly actress always struck people as ethnically ambiguous—with lots of Reddit threads, X, Facebook, and Instagram posts speculating about her background. “I just found out that Miranda Cosgrove is fully white after thinking she was part asian for the longest lmao I’m shook,” one Reddit poster wrote.

This isn’t the only comment. Cosgrove is usually listed under TikToks and posts that read: “Celebrities I thought were Asian, but are not,” which also includes celebrities like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and even iCarly co-star Jerry Trainor. “I was shocked to learn that she was pure white American. I thought she was at least mixed Filipina,” one TikToker posted.

However, Miranda Cosgrove did disclose her full ethnicity in a recent interview, thanks to DNA testing.

What is Miranda Cosgrove’s ethnicity?

Miranda Cosgrove revealed in the Trash Tuesday podcast that she did a 23 & Me DNA test, and she was “surprised” that her results included Mexican background from her mom’s side and an Indian background. The Wrong Paris star also found out she was at least 30% Jewish from the results. In a 2009 tweet, she also disclosed that she’s Irish, English, and French. “People always think im a lot of different nationalities though which I think is pretty cool :),” she wrote in the post. So, Miranda Cosgrove does have some Asian background in her after all.

Trash Tuesday host Khayla Kuhn also asked her if she gets mistaken for Filipino a lot, and the actress did confirm that people do ask her from time to time. “I wish I was Filipino, that would actually make things awesome,” she joked.
