The recent meeting between King Charles and Prince Harry, the first in over a year of the two not speaking, has left royal watchers and casual fans alike feeling very positive about the future of the relationships between the members of the British royal family. Reconciliation has, after all, been a priority for both Prince Harry and his father. And though some reports indicate Prince William still isn’t there, the general mood is one of optimism.
However, some people are concerned that Prince Harry’s new comments, made during an interview in Ukraine, could present a setback to the reconciliation. The comments saw Harry speaking about his memoir, Spare. “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public,” Prince Harry told The Guardian. “It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”

The visit looked to promote the work of the Duke of Sussex’s Invictus Games Foundation (IGF) and celebrate the recovery of veterans who have suffered life-changing injuries since the war with Russia began. “I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative. The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected,” Harry explained about his memoir.
“It is not about revenge, it is about accountability,” he also said, referring to the media coverage about him and his family. And he also very clearly wants reconciliation, even though he also made it clear, “you cannot have reconciliation before you have truth”.
This all comes after the Duke of Sussex’s recent visit to the UK, where he met with his father and visited his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth‘s, grave. There was no meeting with his brother, Prince William, and the relationship reportedly remains strained. In fact, Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop reported that he only found out his brother and father were actually meeting just before the King left for the meeting.
“He had no idea Harry was on the schedule — and certainly wasn’t asked for input,” the source added. That was reportedly planned. “If William had been consulted, he would have tried to block it,” the source added. “That’s why Charles went ahead quietly.”
People had been expecting a possible reconciliation between father and son ever since Prince Harry said in a BBC interview earlier this year, “I would love reconciliation with my family.” Back then, Harry also said, “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
“Harry is sending serious signals that he wants reconciliation,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital, adding that Prince Harry’s recent schedule indicates “a new way of doing things with new advisers, whose advice is being heeded more.”
However, even though it seemed clear that Prince Harry was talking about his entire family in his BBC interview, so far, it’s only King Charles he’s met with. And according to The Mirror, “As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand.”
Not just that, ShuterScoop even recently reported that the feeling from Harry’s camp was that William set his schedule for the days his brother would be in town with Harry in mind. “Harry’s convinced William stacked his own schedule with rival charity events to pull focus,” a palace insider told Shuter. “He feels undercut at every step.”
There is, however, still a belief that concern for King Charles’ health could push the brothers to reconcile. According to Parade, the reality is that “King Charles really isn’t doing well,” which could be the thing that pushes William and Harry closer.
“It wouldn’t be surprising if William and Harry reconnected a bit more over this,” their source said. “This could be the thing that pushes it to happen.”
For now, things are certainly positive, but there’s still a way to go.
